A MidSummer Dream: LongHouse Reserve's Gala Celebration in East Hampton

LongHouse Reserve's annual Summer Benefit was a MidSummer Dream come true, honoring the joyful creativity of artist Mary Heilmann and the literary genius of A. M. Homes. The evening was filled with wonder, from stilt walkers to trapeze aerialists, and the entire 16-acre grounds were open for discovery, with art at every turn. Guests were transported into a whimsical world, and the evening raised over $650,000.

The dinner began with a poignant video of the late LongHouse Founder Jack Lenor Larsen, who shared his vision for discovery and change. Director Carrie Rebora Barratt quoted Eleanor Roosevelt, referencing Jack's vision for LongHouse, and Board President Nina Gillman spoke of the transition of LongHouse from a private residence to a fully public institution. The words of the evening were filled with inspiration, reflection, and a toast to the future.

Laurie Anderson introduced A.M. Homes with a playful and profound speech, sharing her first encounter with A.M. in a tree and her recent exploration of A.M.'s work with talking trees and AI. A.M. took the stage to share her personal connection with Jack Lenor Larsen, revealing how his fabric designs influenced her first visions and experiences.

The celebration continued with artist Almond Zigmund introducing honoree Mary Heilmann, likening her paintings to catching a perfect wave. A Junior Committee hosted the afterparty, filled with cocktails, dessert, and dancing. The art auction benefiting education at LongHouse included works by renowned artists, and the upcoming events at LongHouse promise to continue the enchantment and celebration of art and creativity. LongHouse Reserve truly shines as a magical place that inspires and connects the community.

Why Travel Itineraries Matter: Balancing Exploration and Relaxation

To put it simply, a travel itinerary is a document that contains a very detailed plan of action for the upcoming trip. This detailed plan of action most typically contains relevant travel information, which can also include booking information, tickers, and transportation, which is organized and structured in a schedule format. The plan also includes the time and day when you will be doing specific tasks. The significance of travel itineraries is hidden in the fact that they act like a map that may help you navigate everything during your holiday or backpack adventure so you can make the most of your time while at a specific destination. The most common itinerary will describe key points about the trip and outline all of the details so you can make it a success. Here are some more reasons why itineraries matter.

Destination Overview

One of the key points included in every itinerary is the destination overview. Basically, this is the stage where you should complete research about the place you intend to visit. Truth be told, this is the most important stage since you cannot go to a new country or continent without having some basic knowledge about the destination. So, the travel itinerary cannot be written unless you have some general understanding of what you want to see within a country.

Highlighted Experiences

The travel itinerary is not complete without all of the experiences you want to acquire in a certain location. No matter if these small goals are as small as seeing some tourist attractions, riding jet skis on the sea, or hiking in the mountains. Once you have done your research and are certain of the things you want to visit, it is time to make a separate section about the highlighted experiences. Also, you should not forget to include pre-booked trips, experiences, and tours in your travel plan. To this end, if you decide to book Roman Forum tickets, for instance, you can look up the offers online and even book them beforehand. Instead of waiting until the last minute for the booking to be done, you can do this a couple of months earlier and stay on the safe side.

Trip Duration and Logistics

Now that you have a picture of the destination you want to visit and everything you want to do, it is high time for you to detail your trip duration and logistics. This means that you should plan out how many days and nights you intend on spending in a certain location. Also, you should manage transport times and flight times and arrange everything about your move throughout an unknown region. For instance, you will need to calculate how long it will take you to arrive at the airport, what your check-in time is, and then account for the actual flight time. Logistics is an important aspect to get right and to incorporate every single little thing, which also includes eating, transporting, and getting ready. It is all about planning and considering all of the details, so getting the duration and logistics right will be one of the greatest factors in your trip.

Day-By-Day Itinerary

One of the many things that make this itinerary so beneficial and important for your trip is that the schedule is outlined day by day. It is recommended that you map out your travel plan that will cover all details until the date when your flight is due and have enough time to fit in and visit whatever you originally intended.

Foodie Plan

There is no complete travel itinerary without dining and cuisine options incorporated as well. You should go ahead and take a look at some local recommendations or just freestyle your dining options. However, it is a good idea to do your research beforehand and make sure that you do not break your budget. This way, you will make the most of your time during the holiday without knowing what you will eat.

Accommodation Planning

Last but not least, every single good travel itinerary includes certain accommodation details about the place you are staying. This way, you will be able to find out if there are amenities that should be included and that could possibly change the course of your trip. For instance, if your accommodation includes breakfast in the offer, you will not need to plan your breakfast every single day.

Creating your travel itinerary is a super important step, as you will be able to predict and plan out every single minute of your time on the trip. This way, you will make the most of your time. However, give yourself some freedom to freestyle and go with the flow.

What You Need to Know Before Investing in a Miami Summer Home

Are you considering the idea of investing in a summer home in the captivating city of Miami? You've made a wise decision! Miami's breathtaking beaches, vibrant culture, and year-round sunshine make it the perfect city to own a summer home.

However, before you embark on your journey of owning a Miami summer home, it's crucial to gain a solid understanding of the local real estate market and take into account the key factors that can impact your investment.

Thankfully, you don't have to figure it out on your own because, in this article, we'll explore what you need to know before investing in a Miami summer home.

You Don't Need to Pay Income Tax

One significant advantage of investing in a summer home in Miami is the favorable tax environment. Florida is one of the seven states in the United States that does not levy a state income tax.

The absence of state income tax in Florida opens up opportunities for Miami summer homeowners to maximize their rental income. For instance, you can rent out your summer home in Miami, generating additional revenue without having to pay state income tax on that rental income. This tax advantage can translate into higher profitability and a better return on investment, especially when you consider Miami's thriving tourism sector.

Nevertheless, it's important to consult with a tax advisor or real estate professional to fully understand the tax implications and any applicable local regulations regarding rental income in Miami. This will ensure that you comply with all legal requirements and make informed decisions that align with your investment goals.

You Can Maximize a Reverse Mortgage to Cover Payments

One option to consider when investing in a Miami summer home is the opportunity to take advantage of reverse mortgages. This financial product is specifically available to individuals aged 62 or older, making it a viable option if you're a senior looking to own a summer home without the burden of monthly mortgage payments.

This option lets you tap into the equity you've built up in a Miami summer home and convert it into usable funds. Consequently, it can provide financial freedom and flexibility when looking to supplement your income or cover expenses during your retirement years.

Whether you want to do renovations to your property, cover medical expenses, or simply enjoy a more comfortable retirement, a reverse mortgage can offer the financial support you need. For example, most homeowners pay around $5000 to fix foundation issues, according to Home Advisor. If you need to make this repair, a reverse mortgage will help you do so more comfortably.

But note, reverse mortgages come with certain eligibility requirements and regulations, including being aged 62 or older. The amount you can borrow is based on factors such as your age, the value of your home, and current interest rates.

There are Plenty of Location Options

As Florida's most popular city, Miami is constantly evolving and expanding, offering a diverse range of neighborhoods and communities that cater to various preferences and lifestyles. This means numerous options for purchasing a summer home.

Whether you're seeking an urban oasis, a coastal retreat, a family-friendly environment, or a culturally vibrant neighborhood, Miami has something to offer. Explore the different locations and consider your lifestyle preferences to find the perfect spot that suits your needs and enhances your summer living experience in this dynamic city.

You'll Need to Invest in Regular Pest Control Services

It's important to be aware of the unique pest challenges Miami presents before investing in a summer home. One particular pest that thrives in the warm and humid climate is the American cockroach. These resilient creatures are known for their ability to survive for up to four months without water or food, making them a common nuisance in many households.

To ensure the comfort and cleanliness of your Miami summer home, investing in regular pest control services is highly recommended. Professional pest control companies have the expertise and resources to effectively eliminate and prevent infestations, including targeted treatments for cockroaches.

Investing in a summer home in Miami offers an exciting opportunity to enjoy the city's vibrant culture, beautiful beaches, and diverse neighborhoods. From the absence of state income tax to the flexibility of reverse mortgages, there are financial advantages to consider. With careful planning and research, you can find the perfect summer home in Miami to create lasting memories and enjoy the best of what this dynamic city has to offer.

Fight the Record Heat with These Sustainably Produced South African Chilled Orange Wines

Annabella Pardo

You don’t have to read the news to understand we’re experiencing record heat across the world.

While winemakers, growers, and producers work together to fight climate change through sustainable practices, consumers can help beat the heat, support their efforts, and explore trending wines with skin-contact whites from South Africa.

Why Orange Wine? For starters, it’s best served chilled and is made from white grapes that produce refreshing, energetic aromas and flavors that are perfect for that afternoon slump. For people who love red wine and would like to slowly explore white wines, Orange Wine is also a good choice since it has subtle tannins reminiscent of red wines! While big red wines are difficult to swallow in 100 degrees, chilled Orange Wines are the best substitute out there!

Lubanzi Orange Wine Is Skin Contact 2022 Lubanzi was founded in 2016 by two young friends who set out to create a ‘locally run, globally minded’ business that would highlight the magnetism of South Africa while delivering top notch wines such as this orange Chenin Blanc. Lubanzi is certified sustainable, organic and dedicated to carbon neutrality, and the business partnered with The Pebbles Project, a not for profit that provides health & education resources directly back to the families who live and work on South Africa's wine farms.

This wine is uniquely complex with subtle tannins, crisp acidity, and notes of citrus zest, apricot, honey and chamomile to help relax you on those sunny afternoons.

Bosman Family Vineyards Fides Grenache Blanc 2019 The Bosman’s aren’t new to wine. Since 1707, eight generations of stewards have cared for the land and community as a whole. Orange wines are much older than Bosman though, having originated thousands of years ago in Georgia and Northern Italy where white grapes ferment on their skins to produce highly concentrated wines that are also just as refreshing as Provence Rosé’s or New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs.

This 100% Grenache Blanc is souced from bush vines and has notes of waxy orange peel, marzipan, bruised apple and lasting complexity.

A.A. Badenhorst Secateurs Riviera 2021 Located on Paardeberg Mountain, A.A. Badenhorst overlooks the Swartland, cousins Hein and Adi Badenhorst source their Chenin Blanc from 50+ year old un-irrigated bush vines that are naturally low-yielding, producing tremendous quality and concentration. Conscientious farming and natural wine processes guide them as they restore the neglected cellar and vineyards.

The 2021 skin contact Chenin Blanc is incredibly textured and has aromas of bruised peaches, rhubarb and custard sweets and earl grey tea with a chalky and long finish.
