Read MoreHappy National Espresso Day! Can you imagine a world without such a glorious and uplifting drink, we certainly wouldn’t want to. The origin of the word 'espresso' came from the espresso machine. This name was given by two men, Luigi Bezzera & Desiderio Pavoni, in Venice, Italy, who after years of tweaking their coffee making machine came up with a newer model in 1903. They called the coffee made with a newer machine - cafee espresso.
Remember to always start off with Un Espresso Per Favore!

Perc of Art
By Craft Mixologist Chelsea Solkowski on behalf of Saxtons River Distillery
1oz Perc Coffee Liqueur by Saxtons River Distillery (Available on TotalWine)
.5oz Saxtons Maple Liqueur
1oz Shot of Espresso (roughly 1 oz)
2oz Vanilla Vodka
Grated Cinnamon
—Martini Glass
(Build this recipe in a cocktail shaker)
Add 1 oz Perc Coffee Liqueur, .5 Saxtons Maple Liqueur, 2 oz of Vanilla Vodka of your choosing, and one shot of Espresso.
To obtain the desired foam on top of martini, shake it more than you think you should, and then some!
Immediately strain into a martini glass and garnish with a sprinkle of grated cinnamon
** Optional, add a dollop of *homemade maple whip cream!
Chelsea’s Tips:
-To make the Maple whipped cream — in a shaker or a mason jar, add 6 oz of heavy whipping cream and 1 oz of maple syrup. Shake this until desired consistency! Be careful not to shake past the point of whipped cream, as you will begin to make butter.. (not the worst accident you’ll ever have!)
-Consider creating your own vanilla vodka! Simply choose an unflavored vodka and add 1 vanilla bean per liter. Let sit in a cool dry place. Results will be noticeable within 24 hours, however the longer you wait, the more flavor you’ll get.

2 dashes cocoa powder

As popular as an espresso martini is, Chicago’s River North hotel The Godfrey’s rooftop bar, I|O Godfrey, wanted to make sure their Espresso Martini stood out, but not affect the flavor of it. Instead of making the martini with the staple ingredient, vodka, they decided substitute the vodka for Don Julio Anejo, only to elevate the flavor of everyone’s favorite martini. It is made with a tequila twist with Invigorating Brew of Don Julio Anejo, Mr. Black Coffee Liqueur, Amaro Montenegro, & Fresh Espresso. By making the Espresso Martini with Don Julio Anejo, instead of using vodka, strikes the perfect balance of rich agave notes and a subtle bitterness from the coffee, all with just the right amount of sweetness. This delicious libation is a best-seller for a reason.

An Inspiring Collaboration by Cuban Rooted Founder Janet Diaz-Bonilla, Master Blender Francisco José “Don Pancho” Fernández Pérez and Artist, Mr. Humberto Benitez.
Photo via @lamarielitarum
La Marielita Rum is thrilled to announce the launch of the inaugural blend of the premium hand-crafted blended Panamanian rum.
Led by Janet Diaz-Bonilla, the first Cuban-American immigrant woman to found and own a rum brand, La Marielita Rum is a proud collaboration of Janet Diaz-Bonilla and fellow Cuban rooted masterminds Francisco José “Don Pancho” Fernández Pérez, also known as the Godfather of Rum and artist Humberto Benitez.
Photo via @lamarielitarum
La Marielita Rum is inspired by the 1980 Mariel Boatlift, an exodus initiated by a political movement where thousands of Cubans sought refuge at the Peruvian embassy. At six-years-old, Janet Diaz-Bonilla, alongside her parents, embarked on a journey from Mariel, Cuba to Key West, Florida, only to be transferred upon arrival to a holding camp for 53 days before being awarded their freedom. Janet embarked on this journey to craft La Marielita Rum to honor and celebrate hard work, dedication to family, and gratitude for freedom.
Photo via @lamarielitarum
As CEO and founder, Janet brought together a team that defines and embodies Cuban heritage. Together Janet and world-renowned Cuban Master of Rum, Francisco José “Don Pancho” Fernández Pérez, skillfully formulated a rum with a distinctly unique bouquet of aromatic flavors distilled in Las Cabras de Pesé, Panama.
Photo via @lamarielitarum
“I am fortunate to have the opportunity to collaborate with one of the world’s most gifted and respected master blenders and artists to tell my story through a genuinely delicious tasting experience,” says Janet Diaz-Bonilla. “We take great pride in the final result of our premium rum and are excited to share La Marielita Rum with the world.”
Photo via @lamarielitarum
Acclaimed Cuban-American artist, Humberto Benitez, shares the founder’s roots and understood the importance of illustrating an image that encompassed the sentiments and authenticity of La Marielita’s story for the bottle’s label. “The painting I created for the label art of La Marielita Rum is a story of hope, determination, boundless spirit against the odds, and the beauty of those who carry that spirit over the horizon,” says Humberto Benitez. La Marielita Rum is aged in Bourbon curated American white oak casks for at least 18 Years with no additives or artificial flavorings. With a burnt toffee and oak aroma, the rum gradually transitions into cacao flavors as it grazes the palate; with layers of vanilla, coffee bean and orange blossom lingering, it then evolves into tenors of hazelnut and chocolate and ends with a smooth and balanced finish.

La Marielita Rum (SRP: $59.99) is currently available in Florida, California, and New York and also available nationwide at https://lamarielita.com/shop/.

Gran Centenario, Mexico’s #1 tequila, proudly announces the U.S. launch of Gran Centenario Cristalino. Founded in 1857 by Lazaro Gallardo, the first ever Tequila Master Distiller in history, Gran Centenario is rooted in over 150 years of Mexican heritage and tradition and continues to expand its historic family portfolio with this exquisite new release.

Handcrafted in the highlands of Jalisco, all expressions of Gran Centenario (Plata, Reposado, Añejo, Leyenda, and now, Cristalino) are produced with 100% Blue Weber Agaves at Ex-Hacienda Los Camichines. Expertly crafted using the brand’s proprietary process, ‘Selección Suave’ - in which newly rested tequilas are blended with the smoothest aged reserves - Gran Centenario Cristalino uses the finest Añejo and Extra Añejo tequilas matured in American oak barrels. A first for the brand, the blended aged tequila is then finished in Calvados casks for a few months, before being filtered through a meticulous process with Mexican silver, transforming the aged tequila into a crystal-clear liquid. The resulting spirit has the smoothness and depth of an aged tequila, with hints of fresh apple and oak coming from the Calvados cask finish.
Photo via @grancentenariotequila
“It’s an exciting time for the Tequila category in the U.S., with new and existing tequila enthusiasts increasingly seeking out more premium products with different elements in finishing and aging,” said Alex Coronado, Head of Production and Master Distiller at Gran Centenario Tequila. “Gran Centenario Cristalino is a remarkable spirit and marks the first time we have finished our tequila in Calvados casks, and used silver in our Cristalino filtration process. Producing an unparalleled taste to any other tequila out there, the result is a clear tequila, rich in notes of sweet agave, toffee, fresh apple, and oak.”

Gran Centenario Cristalino arrives in the U.S as the Cristalino category experiences exponential growth. First introduced in Mexico over a decade ago with the help of Coronado, Cristalino makes up over 35% of the high-end tequila category, and the U.S. is starting to see similar potential. As the latest offering from Mexico’s number one selling tequila, Gran Centenario Cristalino offers a truly transformative, smooth yet complex profile from the very first sip.
● Sight: Flawless clarity with hints of silver.
● Aroma and palate: Sweet notes of cooked agave and toffee aromas with a touch of fresh apple, and oak.
● Finish: Long, complex, and ultra-smooth.

Fragrant aromas of hibiscus flower, red- sour cherry and a touch of watermelon rim are complemented with fresh brioche bread and mandarin citrus notes. This sparkler is a perfect pairing with goat cheese, fruit tarts or fresh oysters with salmon caviar.
The Vina Robles 2019 Petite Sirah ($32) is here to match your style. Read MoreIt’s always a good time for red wine, especially on August 28, National Red Wine Day. Even during the hottest time of Summer one can enjoy red wine. Perfect for the grill, or a colder glass to sip and drink in the afternoon, we found red wines suitable for everybody. Below are our recommendations on what to drink this National Red Wine Day.
This fabled Ruffino wine has been on the most prized since it was first released in 1927. This wine is well balanced on the palate, with velvety tannins, firm acidity, and a lingering finish of rosemary. The blend is 80% Sangiovese - the most predominant and most famous red grape variety of Chianti - along with 20% Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
A funky red that not only gets better as it breathes but pairs well with beef, veal, pork, and pasta. It has earthy mushroom notes mixed with red and black fruit notes. Wait at the 30-minute mark; it will be a mouthful of jammed fruits!
A true reflection of place, this wine boasts rich, complex flavors and is made up of grapes from To Kalon Vineyard, the special site that Robert Mondavi chose for the winery in 1966. This red blend is made up of 49% Cabernet Franc, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot and aged for 21 months in French oak barrels (100% new). Aromas of blackberry, cherry, toasted almond, bay leaf and mocha, lead to a palate of luscious ripe cherry and cassis with savory notes of dried herbs.
Deep red color with ruby highlights. Intense aromas of very ripe red fruit: blackcurrant, strawberry. When agitated, fine and elegant vanilla, toasty and roasted hazelnut notes appear. Extremely fruity and well-balanced, with rich and velvety tannins. Long and supple finish.
Pairs well with pasta in savoury tomato sauce, Tuscan-style veal chops, marinated steak, butter roasted chicken, all cheeses – Best served between 60◦F and 65◦F.

Together with a selected number of Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, Boccadirosa by Luretta is a sustainable wine that brings the unicity of a gem-terroir to all the senses.
Herbs from the Mediterranean combine, in this wine, to vivacious aromas of elderberry, dried lemon peel, acacia and marzipan, resulting in a complex, rounded, and full-bodied white that is ideal to be sipped during summer as well as colder seasons.
From Mascota Vineyards, Unánime Chardonnay (SRP: $24.99) shows aromas of spiced-apple, peach, ripe-mango and nutmeg. It is full-bodied with crisp acidity and a creamy, dense texture which helps it pair deliciously with hearty Crab Cakes topped with a Remoulade Sauce or a fresh Chicken Pecan Salad.
The energetic ‘little sister’ to Whispering Angel, The Beach is perfectly balanced with subtle, fruity notes and exceptional length. Clad in a lighter glass bottle, this new wine launched this Spring with a coastline-cleanup initiative aimed at preserving the world's beaches.
Healthy. Sustainable. Hand-picked.
Pinot grigio is a grape variety which has found its ideal home in Trentino, a land which allows it to express its full potential. This unique alpine context in the wine growing world brings out Pinot Grigio’s different styles thanks to the pedo-climatic environments in which it is cultivated, characterized by soils, exposure and altitudes, characteristics which make Trentino an immense, natural, and environmental mosaic!

Alongside enjoying some fresh and fruity rum-based cocktails, people generally tuck into an array of grub in the summer months. From having a picnic in the park to relaxing on the beach with a homemade feast, you can’t beat eating outside in the sunshine, can you?
While fruit-themed desserts and slices of cake are a welcome addition to any summer feast, a sweet platter is something that is relatively easy to prepare while also making for a real showstopper of a dessert for your sunny get-together. Sweet platters can withstand the heat, too, although that obviously depends on what you decide to incorporate into your platter of treats. For many people, sweets, much like the sweet delights featured in the Sweet Bonanza slot, are the perfect after-dinner feast. Other people might prefer fruit and chocolate, though. Ultimately, however you decide to present your sweet platter is up to you.
A balanced platter is recommended
While what you decide to put on your platter is your choice, it’s generally recommended that it does have some balance. Typically, in the summer months, people gather for feasts of this type, making it important to factor in everyone’s individual tastes. For example, some people simply don’t like sweets, while others prefer fruit and chocolate. In order to cater for everyone, consider mixing it up as much as you can. Go-to options include small chocolates and sweets, peanut butter cups, biscuits or cookies, pieces of cake, dried fruit, cheese and crackers, and a whole lot more. There are no rules, but always be sure to provide variety.
You can also make the platter more exotic by adding unconventional items from around the world. Many look into options for Dutch cheese that can be added to crackers. Adding rare fruits from tropical regions like dragon fruit and rambutan, for instance, is an exciting way to mix up the traditional summer platter.
Platter board options
Once you’ve nailed down your selection of treats, you’ll need to find the perfect board to put them on. Not everyone owns a platter board, but you don’t necessarily need one. For example, great alternatives include a breadboard or chopping board, a baking tray, a marble pastry board, a serving tray, a giant plate, or even a basket of some kind. Ultimately, you need a solid and cool home for your selection of sweet treats. It doesn’t need to be fancy, and it certainly doesn’t need to cost a lot.
Presentation is key
While the platter board options available to you are extensive, the presentation of your board generally needs to be in one way; tidy and tasty. After all, people eat with their eyes, don’t they? As such, it’s hugely important that you make it seem as appealing as possible otherwise, your platter might not be empty come the end of your memorable feast. For example, always leave things in their natural state as much as you can, be it grapes on the vine or cherries on the stem. Likewise, if you’re adding fruit coated in chocolate, make sure they have a special place on the board. Sliced fruit goes down extremely well also, as does chocolate in its wrappers. As we’ve said, though, this is essentially subjective. What might look good to you could look bad to others, but have fun with it and always make sure there is thought behind where you’re placing a particular item.
Provide bowls
While everyone grabbing a handful of treats can work, in the hot weather it could easily result in a melted mess. With that in mind, make sure there are bowls or small drinking glasses provided for people to house their delicious delights. Some things just require bowls, and this is most definitely one of them.
Other things to keep in mind include making sure there are no spaces on your platter, bringing utensils, and bringing a sweet and refreshing drink as an accompaniment.
