The main level includes a 24-seat formal dining room, gourmet kitchen, lounge and eight-seat bar, great room, and conservatory. A grand staircase connects to three levels of the home, in addition to an elevator that services all four floors. The third floor houses the estate's business office, four generous en-suite bedrooms, and lavish primary suite. A private staircase ascends to the fourth floor, offering two commodious en-suite bedrooms, a sitting room, and a dining area served by a Pullman kitchen.

The home's lower level hosts a 3,500-bottle wine cellar and tasting room, a 12-seat movie theater, a game room, and a fitness center. At the rear of the main house is a grand pool and spa, summer kitchen, and fully equipped pool house. Adding to the grandeur are formal gardens, two stocked ponds, and a courtyard with a porte-cochère and six-car garage with staff apartment.

The estate's equestrian barn is hand-built by Amish carpenters. It’s a two-story structure clad in Pennsylvania fieldstone and features 24 oversized stalls, a foaling center, an owner's office, tack room, and barn manager's apartment. Supporting the main barn is a quarantine barn, equipment building, exercise ring, turnouts, fenced pastures, 1.5 miles of roads, and farm operations center with a circa-1890 farmhouse.

Which Home Renovations Will Help Improve Your Family's Health?

Research shows 50% of houses available on the market are at least 40 years old, which increases the likelihood of health problems. But regardless of how old your home is, some renovation projects are worth prioritizing, considering you likely want to keep your family healthy. Here are a few home renovation projects that can improve your family's health.

Paint Jobs for Healthy Living

There's a particular way homes should be repainted. Of course, you'll need primer and perhaps sandpaper, but homes built before 1978 may contain lead. Lead poisoning is bad news and can happen if sandpaper is used before applying nontoxic paint. Therefore, the paint you use should contain low-volatile organic compounds (VOC).

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, VOC consists of a variety of harmful chemicals that may affect indoor air quality. Without these chemicals, your family may not experience headaches and other adverse health effects. Some low or non-VOC paint brands include:

  • Benjamin Moore Natura

  • Go Green World Products

  • Shermin-Williams Harmony

  • Clare

  • Bioshield Healthy Living Paints

Bathroom Renovation

Many homeowners use cleaning products with harsh chemicals that can linger after living in the same bathroom setup. But installing a new shower or retiling floors can eliminate mold and mildew which comes from condensation the naked eye might not notice. Because of the moisture in your bathroom, this particular renovation should be prioritized.

Roof Repair

From replacing shingles to adding flashing and underlayment, roof repair and replacement can go a long way in keeping your family safe. Without a secure roof, your family will be prone to leakage and the resulting water damage and mold. In the event of outdoor air pollution, roof repair can also protect your family from being exposed to more pollutants than usual.

Clean Water for Your Family's Health

What about a whole-house water filtration system? Well, if there's one strenuous job that requires hydration, it's moving from one home to another. Research shows more than half of all moves take place during the summer, between the beginning of May and Labor Day. That's heat and dehydration which can be remedied only with fresh, cool, drinkable water. A whole-house water filter system can cleanse your water of chlorine and harmful bacteria so you can take a nice shower or enjoy a glass of cold water.

Health and Home Offices

Homeowners may not always think of mental health when renovating their homes. But adding or renovating a home office separates work from leisure, resulting in decreased anxiety and stress. Simply think of how good it feels to unwind after a long day of work and relax on the couch. That's harder to do when you're working at your kitchen table instead of your home office.

  • Remodeling can free up space for deep cleaning

  • Drywall repair rids the home of toxins and chemicals buried deep within the home

  • Restructuring can completely eliminate clutter, lower anxiety, and improve air quality

Window Installation and Ventilation Improvements

Unclean indoor air triggers asthma symptoms and other lung illnesses. All health problems are scary, but unlike many health risks, the effects of indoor air pollution can sneak up on unsuspecting families, causing illnesses and worse. According to the U. S. Department of Energy, air leaks around your windows and doors can add 10% to your heating bills. However, exterior shading such as overhangs and exterior blinds can improve efficiency.

From applying a fresh coat of paint to making sure your roof is in tip-top shape, the right renovations can keep your family healthy for years to come. If you're ever in doubt, trust that the research shows that indoor air pollution, mold, and unsanitary water can hurt your family without you noticing. So going forward, consider these renovations to make your home feel as good as it looks.

Celebrate National Cognac Day With D'USSÉ

June 4th is National Cognac Day, and what’s a better way to end the week than with a little cognac. Holidays are all about upholding traditions and making new ones, so if you haven’t celebrated National Cognac before, this is the year to start – after all, the French spirit saw unprecedented growth last year, up a whopping 62% in sales by the end of 2020. The category is quickly shedding its reputation as an “old world” nightcap of choice and gaining popularity with both classic and creative cocktail drinkers.

Leading the charge is D'USSÉ, which saw a 109% increase in sales last year, making it the fastest growing modern cognac brand. For years, cognac was relegated to neat serves or traditional cocktails, but today’s drinkers are finding that its warmth and depth of flavor is ideal for a variety of different palates. With a complex, layered tasting profile coupled with modern sensibilities, D’USSÉ appeals to both longtime cognac connoisseurs and the newest generation of inquisitive imbibers.

After a year of enduring the great indoors, let’s relish in summer days outside with friends and toast to National Cognac Day with these D'USSÉ cocktail recipes:

For a more modern twist on an easy-to-make classic, the D'USSÉ Splendid Sidecar rebalances the depth and sweetness of VSOP with orange blossom water and bright citrus flavors to invigorate the senses. This serve honors the timeless legacy of cognac with that contemporary D'USSÉ (and lemon) twist, for today’s drinker.

D’USSÉ Splendid Sidecar

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ oz D’USSÉ VSOP Cognac

  • 1 oz Orange Liqueur

  • ¾ oz Lemon Juice

  • 1 Bar Spoon Orange Blossom Water

Method

Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and double strain into a coupe glass.

Have you mastered the bartending basics over the past year? Put your mixology skills to the test with the Paradise Gem. The creative cocktail is a true celebration of Cognac terrior, using ingredients commonly found in the French region. In a frosted coupe, enjoy flavors of D’USSE VSOP with Sauvignon Blanc, homemade Marigold syrup to enhance the cognac’s floral notes, and muddled coffee beans to play with D’USSE’s woody notes, adding another layer of complexity.

D’USSÉ Paradise Gem

Ingredients

  • 1 oz D’USSÉ VSOP Cognac

  • 1 oz Marigold Syrup*

  • ¾ oz Sauvignon Blanc

  • 1 Coffee Bean

Method

Muddle coffee bean in a mixing glass. Add D’USSÉ, marigold syrup and Sauvignon Blanc and fill with ice. Stir and double strain into a frosted coupe glass.

*Marigold Syrup: Heat 34 oz of water in a saucepan until it reaches a boil. Add 34 oz of white sugar, 1 oz of citric acid and ¼ lb of dehydrated marigold flowers. Let stand for 24 hours. Double strain into a bottle for storage.

How to Retain the Value of Historic Properties

New York features both rich history and flashy modernity. If your property is closer to the former, you can be proud of its unique character. Your historic home adds a sense of charm to your neighborhood. It also stores memories from the past. With the push toward modernization, preserving your residence’s value is especially important.

preserve-historic-homes-city.jpg

Historic homes consist of beautiful architecture and help keep the past intact. Owning one also has economic benefits. With the increase in new construction, there are a limited amount of historic properties on the market. This gives your house increased resale value. You can also potentially receive tax breaks and incentives.

With so many benefits of historic properties, here are ways you can help preserve their value.

1. Schedule Regular Maintenance Updates

Consistent upkeep, such as waxing or painting, can help protect the historic features of your home. Also, consider checking your heating and cooling systems. This can help minimize the number of future repairs down the road.

Here are some other monthly maintenance tasks to add to your checklist:

●       Clean your furnace filter

●       Wash your faucet and showerheads

●       Inspect your tub and sink drain

●       Test smoke alarms

2. Minimize Extensive Repairs

Keeping up with maintenance is one way to reduce the number of repairs. However, there will be times when you need to make updates. Only focus on necessary fixes, such as replacing outdated plumbing or unsafe structures. Take pictures before doing anything to preserve your home’s originality.

3. Protect the Original Exterior Design

Your home’s architecture is one of the main appeals for potential buyers. Be sure to keep those classic features, such as the triangular-shaped roof, intact. These are the things that make your house stand out from other properties.

New York City investors are familiar with this strategy for blending old and new. Take newer renovations like 100 Barclay, a condo community placed in the former home of the New York Telephone Company. While the condos are modern and upscale, 100 Barclay preserves the unique exterior character of the 1927 building so the exterior stays true to its original design.

4. Preserve Vintage Windows

Your home’s original windows add a sense of charm. Instead of doing a complete replacement, consider inserting a storm window. These come in a variety of materials, from plastic sheets to glass. They make your home more energy-efficient while still preserving its value.

For Colorado homeowners seeking a full replacement, a window replacement service in Colorado Springs can provide high-quality options that complement the architectural style of your historic home. This way, you can maintain its aesthetic appeal while also improving energy efficiency.

5. Properly Maintain Your Floors

Many historic homes feature hardwood flooring. Over time, it can get scratched or stained, which is why it’s vital to keep up with regular maintenance. Make sure your cleaning products are compatible with your flooring to make the wood shine.

Here are some ingredients to look for in your cleaning supplies:

●       Solvents

●       Surfactants

●       Chelators

●       Citric acid

●       Oxidizers

When cleaning, keep in mind that too much sanding can reduce the longevity of your floors. Minor imperfections provide character. If you end up sanding, do it by hand.

6. Keep in Mind the Original Architect When Remodeling

If you feel like sprucing up a room, make sure it matches the home’s original design. Incorporate decor that is a similar size and style to the other objects inside your house. Look for decorations at your local architectural salvage store or antique shops.

There’s no need to live like you’re in the 1800s — modern upgrades to appliances, energy systems and other house essentials can help you enjoy your home for years to come. But keep what’s unique to the property, and you’ll be able to appreciate the original architect’s vision and stay in line with neighborhood character, too.

When completing a renovation, be sure to do your research and create a budget. This will help you prepare for the expenses and have a plan in place. Bathrooms and kitchens are good spaces to remodel to get a higher ROI when you sell the property.

7. Be Careful When Making Masonry Repairs

Your brick exterior is a staple of your historic home. When it needs repair, keep in mind that the material can’t handle the heaviness of modern cement. You need to find a professional artisan who can match the type of mortar used with your specific brick type.

Also, over time your brick’s color may begin to fade. Consider giving it a touch-up by cleaning off any debris and repainting.

8. Keep Your Plaster Walls

Your plaster walls add a unique style to your home. Plus, they absorb sound better and are water-resistant. If you decide to replace them, keep in mind that it takes skilled artisans to put them up. The material also takes longer to dry.

9. Create a Budget for Repair Costs

Restoring a historic property requires some repairs to keep it up to code. Your heating and electrical system will most likely need to be updated. Create a budget to help with these expenses. This will help you plan and ensure you have enough money saved up.

Here are some tips for creating an effective budget:

●       Take a look back at past repair costs.

●       Consider seasonal maintenance expenses.

●       Remember to watch out for hidden fees.

●       Set aside money for emergency funds.

10. Embrace the History

Many homes have unique interior features, such as winding staircases or root cellars. Be sure to keep these attributes intact when making updates. Also, consider doing some research on your home’s history.

Many of New York City’s most famous residential buildings have been home to famous residents, old wive’s tales and — reportedly — even ghost stories. Residents in Manhattan’s Ansonia, for example, can learn about the building’s former status as the largest residential hotel of its time and read about architect William Earle Stokes.

Single-family properties in historic districts also have unique histories. Homeowners in districts like the Soho Cast-Iron Historic District and Gramercy Park famously feature original architecture and neighborhood charm even as property owners update interiors for modern living.

Knowing details about past residents can allow you to continue their legacy. Plus, when you put your house on the market, your historical knowledge can attract potential buyers.

Preserve Your Home’s History

Your property has its own unique style. While regular maintenance is essential, keep in mind your house’s original design when making any extensive repairs. Before you do a complete remodel, consider these tips to maintain your home’s historic value.

Top 5 Coziest Celebrity Homes in Hollywood

Have you ever wondered what the coziest celebrity homes in Hollywood look like? If that is the case, then you are not the only one. Many are curious as to what kind of homes such wealthy and famous people live in. Do they live in a friendly gated community? Are they fans of expensive furniture and big swimming pools, or do they prefer cozy rooms filled with plants and collectibles?

In this article, you will find a list of a few very cozy celebrity homes, starting with the home of the Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and the retro mansion that belongs to the music sensation Charli XCX, to Jennifer Aniston's dreamy manor. Check it out!

Jennifer Aniston's Dreamy Manor

Jennifer Aniston Hollywood Home Off The MRKT

Jennifer Aniston has been an eye candy for many years, and her flawless-looking skin has always drawn attention. Her stunning mansion, purchased in 2011 and located in Bel Air, Los Angeles, is just as captivating as she is. As one of the most iconic Bel Air homes, the property was originally designed by architect A. Quincy Jones and completed in 1965. In recent years, Jennifer Aniston has thoughtfully brought her residential vision to life, blending timeless architecture with modern comfort.

The primary purpose of reimagining her Bel Air property was to adjust it to Jen's taste. Architectural Digest's tour of her house says that the idea was "to preserve the modernist ethos of the original scheme while softening some of its sharp lines and outfitting the interior with tactile, organic finishes and furnishings." And it worked out just great!

Charli XCX's Retro Manse

charli xcx hollywood home.jpg

Charli XCX recently purchased a gorgeous Tudor-inspired home in Hollywood Hills for almost $3 million built in 1927. She decided to do some remodeling before moving in to make this place suitable for partying and recording music.

The British singer wanted to preserve the house's original features as much as possible and keep interiors bohemian and multicolored. Still, she also managed to allocate enough space for some interesting art pieces to the mix. As a result, even though her home is located in the very heart of Hollywood, it turned out to be a real English oasis.

Nikolaj-Coster Waldau’s Hidden Home

The Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau who plays the role of Jaime Lannister in the hit series Game of Thrones lives in a lovely home located in Los Angeles, California. It is a two-story house built in 2010, which, as expected from a Scandinavian, Coster-Waldau keeps neat and minimalistic. The house is surrounded by a concrete wall and is not visible from the road, making it even more private and secure.

There are several wooden decks on the upper level, one of which has a fireplace and views of the ocean. The middle level consists of three bedrooms and two baths. There is also a fireplace in the living room with a picture window providing a lovely view over LA. The house is surrounded by a beautifully designed garden, which is an excellent addition to the overall peaceful atmosphere of the place.

Selena Gomez's LA Mansion

Selena Gomez decided to move out of her parent's house when she was 17 years old, but she finally found a perfect place for herself in Los Angeles last spring. It is a gorgeous mansion previously owned by a famous singer Tom Petty that Selena Gomez purchased for almost $5 million.

It is an 11-thousand-square feet property with six bedrooms and ten bathrooms, an in-home recording studio, a wine cellar, and a fantastic pool outside. The singer/actress has spent the quarantine in her previous traditional-style home in Studio City, California, and eventually moved in and decorated the place this year.

Gwen Stefani's Stylish Mansion

Gwen Stefani lives in a 13-thousand square feet mansion in Los Angeles, located in the Encino neighborhood of San Fernando Valley. She moved there in 2020 after announcing her engagement to Blake Shelton. The property was purchased for $13 million, and it includes a home theatre, outdoor kitchen area, and outdoor pool.

Gwen Stefani thinks of her house as a free museum that she can visit anytime she wants. For that reason, she has collected lots of interesting books, posters, and other memorabilia in her house. Gwen is surrounded by art pieces, and she even has some sculptures made by local artists. Gwen Stefani also owns a few beautiful guitars that she sometimes uses for writing new songs.
