Missouri: The Road Trip Gem You Need To Visit

There are so many people that are planning a cross-country road trip in America this summer, and if you are one of those people, take another look at your list. Is Missouri on that list of yours? Because if it isn’t, then you should get it written down right now. When you want to ensure that you hit a truly unique place that is filled with historical landmarks and natural beauty, Missouri should be in your top 5. There is a culture here that you won’t find in many other places and for travellers it’s an absolute hidden gem.

A road trip should consist of natural springs, rolling hills, historical and literary sites and Missouri has all of these in spades. It’s not just these attractions, either, because Missouri also has many wineries, all of which have a wine tasting room for you and your friends to indulge in some of the finest flavours. When you’re done sipping on some authentic wines, you can head to some of the delicious restaurants and try some of the southern food that everyone else raves about. There are plenty of places to visit in Missouri, and some of these will influence how you arrange your road trip this summer:

cc0-desktop-backgrounds-fog-7919.jpg

Kansas City

Summer travellers looking to indulge in a little history will love to visit the National World War I Museum based here in Kansas City. There are also 33 other museums worth visiting in the state. The Missouri summers are known to be roasting, but not to worry – there are over 200 fountains that you can visit and cool your heels in. There’s no way that Kansas City shouldn’t be on your list.

The Ozark Mountains

Nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts who love to get their senses heightened by the sheer beauty of the elements will feel at home here. Biking, canoeing, camping and kayaking are just a few of the outdoor activities that you can indulge in here. When you’re done soaking up the summer sun, head to Silver Dollar City and ride the rollercoasters until you throw up. It’s all about balance.

Arcadia Valley

There is so much to see in Missouri’s Arcadia Valley, including state parks and historical sites that are the most beautiful places to visit in the state. Elephant Rock state park has some of the biggest and most exciting rocks to climb on in the summer which are – quite literally – the size of elephants!

Wine Country

There are dozens of wineries that you can choose to visit while you’re on your trip, and there are blackberry wines to try that are deliciously tart and wonderfully refreshing on a hot day. Don’t take my word for it, though, go and try it for yourself.

Missouri isn’t always on the top of the list for those looking to explore, and I just can’t imagine why not. There is so much to see and do that you will be spoilt for choice for your road trip this year.

Is There More To The State Of Florida Than Meets The Eye? Let’s Discuss

When you think of the Florida in the USA, no matter where you are in the world I guarantee that one thought comes to mind first, and that will be likely to be Disney related thanks to the amazing parks in Orlando. While this is an amazing location and whether you go with friends, as a couple or with your family you are bound to have an amazing time in Orlando, there is more to Florida than just roller coasters and water parks. I wanted to share with you some of the other aspects of Florida that is exciting and could entice you to go back time and time again.

6767979825_bc3ca443bf_z (1).jpg

Different locations to explore

So I have already mentioned that Florida is possible more well known for Orlando. The home of Disney world and universal studios, but there are so many great locations in Florida that are definitely worth seeing. Miami, to start with, is a vibrant and culturally diverse city. With Cuban influences this place really doe have it all. Colonial architecture an amazing beach, and fabulous bars and restaurants to enjoy. You can also find plenty of hotel rooms in Miami, Florida that will suit your needs and your budgets. Other locations to consider visiting would be Tampa, Key West, The Florida Keys, Naples and clearwater, to name a few.

More things to do

There is more to do in Florida than enjoying the endless water parks and themed roller coasters I can assure you. The first thing to consider would be the Everglades National Park. Here you can explore some of the most diverse landscape and witness some amazing wildlife. There is also the beautiful Anna Maria Island, The dry Tortugas National park full of wonderful coral reefs to explore and heading to the Southern tip where you are literally only 90 miles away from Cuba. Having said that, others do see Florida as the perfect place to head over to Cuba for a few days with a different vibe.

Amazing Real Estate

As well as it being an international tourist destination with year-round sunshine, Florida has one of the hottest real estate markets in the country, and this is only expected to grow. According to a news release from WFLA Channel 8 in Tampa, between now and April 1, 2024, the population of Florida is expected to grow by an average of 906 new residents per day.

There are also some hot areas in Florida that these new residents will be flocking to; Naples with its luxury homes which according to Shannon’s site are found on Naples beaches and waterways and luxury golf course communities. Then there is Jacksonville, which is ranked #3 for the best cities in the US for jobs and Tallahassee which boasts comparatively low local taxes and beautiful state parks and wildlife.

Some of the best beaches in the world

Would you believe that Florida has some of the best beaches in the world? It is true, the likes of clearwater bay and South beach regularly are high on the lists of some of the best beaches around. There is also the smaller town of Fort Lauderdale, that offers a beautiful beach perfect for family strolls and watching the world go by. If beaches are your thing, then Florida has bags of potential for many holidays to come in the future.

Great weather

The weather is always going to be good in Florida, however there are more chances of rain during certain times of the year, miami has a rainy season from June through to October but offers warmth with humidity, you may find that the best times to travel would be November through to May, with decent temperatures ideal for exploring.

I hope this has given you some incentive to try out other areas in Florida.

Red Wine To Drink All Summer

When you think of red wine, do you think of those hot summer days when you need a drink to quench your thirst? Or do you think about curling up by a fire in mid-December with a book and a glass of your favorite Sauvignon? Probably the latter, right?

A summer red can be surprisingly satisfying if you know which ones to look for. A Cabernet Sauvignon or a Merlot, for example, might be too heavy for the warm weather, but there is no shortage of others to be considered.

red wine.jpg

When getting down to the nitty-gritty, most wine experts agree that summer wines should never include those with more than 14 percent alcohol, as they can be overbearing in the heat. Luca Delogu, owner of Miami Mediterranean restaurant Panarea, additionally advises against wines high in tannins, such as recent vintage Bordeaux, Borlos, and Cabernets from Napa Valley. He says their bitterness will often become exacerbated in the summer, and to instead look for wines coming from cooler climates, like Pinot Noir, Cabernet Francs, or Tempranillo-based wines from Spain. French wines, in particular, are among the best for the season.

As far as reds made in the Northern Rhône style go, you can’t go wrong with the 2015 Côtes du Rhône Rouge ($15). One of the world’s best value red wines, this full-bodied, aromatically intense Syrah is best enjoyed with barbeque flavors and spices, so gather your family and friends for a cookout ASAP!

Delogu recommends the Côtes du Rhône from France: “These wines are fruit-driven but also subtle and sensual. They are the anti-Cabernet, never ponderous or overly complicated.”

By contrast, the 2017 Young Red ($16), the first vintage of Bonterra Organic Vineyards, adheres to the Grenache-base we are more accustomed to seeing with lighter wines. With aromas of red roses, fig, red berries, and orange peel, and a palate of raspberries, watermelon rind, and pomegranate, this wine blossoms into a lively flavor once served chilled.

Another good choice is the 2015 Saint-Joseph Rouge ($35), which is layered with gentle flavors of red berries and oak aromas that pair nicely with grilled meat.

And lastly, if you are looking for a heavier wine, we recommend the Bonterra 2015 Merlot ($16). A combination of dark berries and wood smoke, it is the perfect red to accompany meats right off the grill. It has an elegant style and balance, soft tannins and a long finish, with hints of plum and vanilla spice.

Looking to incorporate any of these reds into the perfect sangria? Time to break out some citrus!

Classic Spanish Sangria

  • 1 750ml bottle of dry red wine
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 lime
  • 1 orange
  • 1 ½ cups of rum
  • ½ cup of white sugar
  • 1 cup of orange juice

Could You Live In These Locations?

There are certain locations around the world that you just think, ‘I would do anything to live there’. But, what you see on the internet, is a lot different to what you might get in reality. Because whilst some destinations might make the perfect holiday, they don’t necessarily make the perfect place to live. However, if you’re going through a time in your life where you just want to jump ship and move to a completely new country or location, then we’re going to try and help you decide whether you could live is some of the most popular tourist destinations. They all have their pros and cons, and largely, it does all depend on the type of lifestyle that you want to lead in your new location. So, let’s explore some of the most attractive destinations on the surface, and whether you should live there.

new-york-city-2380683_1280.jpg

New York

You wouldn’t believe how many people try to move to states such as New York. Whether it be because their work requires them to, or whether they just need a change of scenery. Who could blame them?! New York is one of the most popular holiday destinations, but the one thing that people comment on is the hustle and bustle of the lifestyle. It’s that hustle and bustle that leaves people only staying a week, or maybe slightly more. It isn’t the place where you could go for a two week relaxing break, everything is very much go go go. However, if you were to live there, we do believe that things would be slightly different. To buy or rent an apartment, you would be looking at paying a fortune. But, if you go through companies such as Mark King Properties and get a good deal on your property at home,  you might find that you’re able to afford a lot more than you would have thought. But, there’s other factors to consider. You would have to pick your area wisely, as parts of New York can be rather dicey. You would also need to secure a job pretty much before you settle in. Due to the price of living there, you need a stable and strong income to be able to support a good lifestyle. Once you’re settled in however, we do believe that you will be able to fit into the rushed way of life, and it definitely will keep you on your toes. If you can get a good enough apartment, it would be a great place to raise a family, as the opportunities your children would have would be amazing.

Perth

Australia in general is an extremely popular country to try and move to. Thousands of people attempt it every year, but it’s not as easy as moving to say, Spain for example. Spain is one we’ll talk about later, but it definitely doesn’t rival the size and beauty of Australia. There’s so many places you could try and move to within this country, but one of the most popular is definitely Perth. It’s the perfect mixture of a relaxed vibe, mixed with an up and coming city life. If you live in the suburbs as it were, you’ll generally find that you can get a lot more for your money, and the neighbourhoods are really family bases. The people you meet will be so friendly, and it is a really easy place to settle into. A lot of people backpack through Australia, and try and stay on a working visa for as long as possible. Whilst you don’t have to give the whole backpacking thing a go, you will have to apply for a visa, and it’ll be 10+ years before you can apply for citizenship. Meaning every few years you will have to apply for that visa again, and if they don’t think you’re contributing to their economy, your Australian dream will be over. So, before even considering it, make sure you’re eligible for that visa, and to be able to move you and your family over. You usually have to have a trade, or a skill to contribute. Nurses, teachers, engineers etc. are all on the list of people they like to let into their country.

Switzerland

Arguably the most beautiful country that we’re going to talk about. Switzerland has so much to offer in terms of the beautiful scenery, clean air and streets, and actually working opportunities, but is it a place to be able to raise a family? Well, out of all the destinations we have listed so far, we actually think it’s the best one. Everyone is so friendly in Switzerland, it has one of the lowest crimes rates, and the best education systems. Your children, or you for that matter, wouldn’t have to pay a penny. All children are encouraged onto further education, and the career opportunities they could get from that would be amazing. Not only that, but for you, it would be such a good way of life to settle into. You’d wake up feeling relaxed, refreshed, and ready to face each day. People in Switzerland aren’t bogged down with the things other countries seem to be, the pace of life is just so much slower.

Spain

We think that pretty much everyone would be able to say that they could live in Spain. You’ve got the choice of either beautiful beaches, mountainous wonders, or cute little Spanish towns to settle into. It’s one of the most popular countries for people to move to, just because it’s so simple to do. That many Brits do it, that the schools now teach in both English and Spanish. The only thing we will comment is, there’s not as many job opportunities as there would be in the other countries we’ve listed. You’d have to be fluent in Spanish, and beat the Spanish to the job. You could try and set up a bar or restaurant, but there’s just so much competition it can be hard to make it. However, if you’re looking for sun, sand, and a good time, then yes, we do think you could live in Spain.

First Impression Failure: How You Can Finally Master Your First Meetings

512px-Corporate_Woman_Shaking_Hands_With_a_Corporate_Man.svg.png

First impressions. Aren’t they the bain of most people’s lives? We all know that they shouldn’t matter in the grand scheme of things, but they always do, don’t they? Whether you’re hosting an event, attending someone else’s, or simply trying to build business relationships, you can bet those first impressions will stick fast. In fact, studies suggest it’s near enough impossible to break the boundaries set by the impression made in the first 7-30 seconds of meeting.

Of course, this works out well for some people. You know the ones; they seem to capture hearts the moment they say a simple ‘hello’, and master a room without even trying to. As a result, it seems that everything comes that bit easier for them. But, as hard as you try to study such individuals, you just can’t master the art of making a good impression the way they do. Instead, you stumble through life leaving negative ideas of yourself wherever you go. It causes trouble in both your personal and professional lives, and it’s been driving you up the wall for longer than you can remember.

You wouldn’t be alone in feeling this way. Some of us are all too aware of the reality that first impressions stick. Over time, these negative meetings can have a real impact on everything you do. In the worst case scenario, past bad impressions can even ripple into new acquaintances, leaving you with no chance.

The good news is, you don’t need to put up with this any longer. In fact, there are many ways for you to turn those first impressions around. Whether you have a networking event or dinner party to attend, read on to find out how you can impress from the very start.

Operate through a friend

In many ways, this is the best option for success when meeting new people. When a friend introduces you to someone new, it’s a little like being given a recommendation. If the person in question thinks highly of your friend, they’re more likely to turn to you with a warm and open attitude. And, that in turn can lead to a positive and lasting impression. So, don’t be afraid to ask the people who know and like you to do the introductions. You’ll find that your success levels are much higher this way, and that’s got to be a good thing. What’s more, having someone you know by your side can work wonders if you get nervous in situations like these. They’ll be able to lead the conversation based on their knowledge of the person in question. This avoids any potential faux pas and leaves you at ease to only join the conversation once you’ve grasped the person’s values and beliefs. In short; this is a good step all around, and one you should always take if you have the option.

Consider your body language

Whether you have a friend beside you or not, you should also consider your body language. Despite conflicting views about what creates the ‘first’ first impression, most agree that body language tops the list. So, getting this wrong is the worst sin of all. For one, you need to consider whether you hold yourself in a blocked or unfriendly way. Often, we do this as a defence mechanism without realizing. In new situations, we often hold ourselves in defensive ways. We block our bodies with crossed arms or locked hands. And, this never looks good or works in your favor. Equally, distracted or jittery body language can be off-putting. If you're playing with your trousers, for instance, the person you’re meeting may assume a lack of interest. Again, that’s bad news in a big way. Instead, consider the ways you can use body language to your advantage. As much as blocked positions can ruin a first impression, getting this right can work in your favor. Open and expansive gestures, for instance, help to put people at ease. Instead of crossing your arms, let them drop to your sides. Try, too, to show your palms often to display your open willingness. Eye contact is, of course, also crucial. If you want to go all out, it’s even worth mirroring the body language of the people around you. This is a standard method in business interviews. It creates an unconscious connection which could ensure a lasting relationship. These are two sides of the same coin which produce very different results. Make sure you win the coin toss by thinking about this throughout each meeting.

Avoid divisive fashion

After your body language, attention is sure to shift to the clothes you’re wearing. It doesn’t take a genius to work out that these also play a huge part here. Why else would we take so long attempting to pick out the perfect outfit? But, what is the ideal outfit when meeting someone new? In truth, it all depends on the situation. A business meeting, for instance, will require a professional outfit which shows you value your appearance. By comparison, wearing a suit to a social occasion would be a little strange. In this instance, it’s best to opt for an outfit which can’t be considered divisive either way. Plain tops are your absolute best bet, as they can’t turn anyone against you. By comparison, wearing clothing with slogans or words printed on it could be a mistake. Given that you don’t know the person you’re meeting, it’s all too easy to offend here. Instead, stick with simple options until you gain more knowledge.

Sort your smile

Smiles can lead to first impression problems in a whole load of ways. And, you need to address each of them if you’re to stand any chance at success. For one, your smile itself, or lack of, could be the thing which tips the scales. A smile is a crucial aspect of a first impression, and you need to make sure you always wear one. If you greet someone without smiling at them, it can be bad for a few different reasons. It may be that the person assumes a lack of interest or even a dislike on your part. And, nothing works to unravel first impressions more than imagining someone doesn’t like us. In fact, things couldn’t go much worse than this. So, even if you aren’t a ‘naturally’ smiley person, make sure to put the effort in here. Don’t think either, that a flicker of a smile when you first meet someone will be enough. You should also make an effort to stay engaged and smiling through the interaction. As your relationship develops, you can drop things like this. But, during a first conversation, you need to stay bright to avoid misunderstandings.

Of course, just plastering a smile on your face isn’t the only thing which matters. You also need to consider the condition of your gnashers. You could be the smiliest one in that room, but if your teeth are damaged, it’ll send an instant lousy impression. Admittedly, this isn’t usually a problem during social meetings. But, if you’re looking to build business associations, this is well worth considering. After all, why would anyone want to work with you if you can’t even keep on top of dental hygiene? If your teeth keep causing you issues, it’s past time you contacted a company like Fenton Family Dentistry who can help with everything from whitening to contouring. This is a step worth taking, even if you don’t think anyone’s noticed your gnashers up until now. You would be amazed at how much further you get in the first impression stakes when your smile is shiny white.

photo-1526849601885-db6529ba9305.jpg

Don’t be too loud or too quiet

When it comes to first impressions, we all overcompensate. And, so we should. If you’re going to make an impression which lasts, you’ll need to exaggerate certain aspects of your personality. Otherwise, you’re sure to fade into insignificance. But, one thing you do need to watch out for is being either too loud or too quiet. Both can have a catastrophic impact on your success here. For one, entering a first meeting at the top of your voice is a significant mistake. Not only will you overwhelm the person you’re meeting, but you’ll give the impression you don’t listen. And, that can turn people off without a second of thought.

Equally, quiet individuals may be more liable to slide further into their shells in these situations. But, that can also lead to problems. Either you’ll fail to make an impression at all, or you’ll again give the impression of being uninterested. The person may assume you aren’t speaking because you don’t want to engage them in conversation. And, that’s obviously not a good impression to make. Instead, you need to find a middle ground. Be confident but not too much so. Don’t be afraid to speak, but give the other person a chance as well. In short; don’t be scared to be yourself. You’re sure to get along much better that way.
