Tips for Hosting Summer Events in Hamptons Homes

Summer in the Hamptons offers an idyllic backdrop for hosting events, from intimate gatherings to grand celebrations. Whether you're planning a casual beachfront cookout or an elegant garden party, the key to a successful event lies in the details. As we venture through 2024, it's not just about throwing a party; it's about creating experiences that resonate with our distinctive Hamptonian spirit. The settings here, ranging from sprawling estates to charming seaside cottages, provide more than just a venue—they create a mood, a canvas on which unforgettable memories are painted.

Creating a standout summer event in the Hamptons involves a blend of creativity, careful planning, and understanding the unique ambiance of this coastal paradise. We delve into the essence of what makes events here so special—not just the breathtaking venues but also the customized themes, the gourmet local cuisine, and the orchestrated entertainment that speaks to each guest’s senses.

Let's guide you through preparing a summer event that not only impresses your guests but also harnesses the natural elegance and vibrant culture of the Hamptons. Whether you're a seasoned host or planning your first gathering, embracing these elements ensures your event will be talked about long after the summer fades.

Choosing the Perfect Setting for Your Hamptons Event

Finding the perfect setting for your event in the Hamptons is all about understanding the vibe and vision you want to create. We help you sift through a plethora of options, from quaint vineyards and rustic barns to elegant beachfront properties. Each venue offers a unique backdrop that can dramatically enhance the atmosphere of your gathering. When selecting a venue, consider the type of interaction you want your guests to have – whether it's more intimate with close seating and soft lighting, or a more open and airy space that encourages mingling and movement.

Location is key in the Hamptons. While beachfront venues boast breathtaking views and a breezy, natural ambiance, properties set in the lush, green landscapes offer an equally charming, but distinctly different, setting. It’s important to think about the time of day your event will take place, as well as the natural lighting available, which can transform the mood as the event progresses from day to evening. We guide you in choosing a locale that not only fits the theme of your event but also provides all the necessary amenities for comfort and convenience.

Designing Your Event: Themes and Decor Ideas

Once the location is set, designing your event to reflect a cohesive theme can truly bring your vision to life. We love guiding you through the selection of color schemes, floral arrangements, and decor elements that resonate with the Hamptons’ chic yet laid-back style. Whether you opt for a classic nautical theme with navy blues and crisp whites or a more eclectic bohemian style with vibrant colors and organic textures, the key is to harmonize the decor with the natural beauty of the Hamptons setting.

Themes can extend to every detail, from the invitations and table settings to the lighting and music. For a truly immersive experience, consider how these elements can interact to create a sensory experience for your guests. For instance, soft, ambient string lighting paired with gentle jazz can enhance an evening garden party, while bright, colorful lights and lively music are perfect for a beachside bash. We ensure that your theme is not only visually appealing but also creates the right atmosphere that engages your guests and leaves a lasting impression.

Essential Tips for Catering and Entertainment

Ensuring your event in the Hamptons has top-notch catering and entertainment is crucial to its success. We emphasize the importance of selecting local caterers who specialize in using fresh, local ingredients that reflect the season’s best offerings. Imagine your guests enjoying a dinner featuring freshly caught seafood or locally sourced vegetables. It’s not just a meal; it’s an experience that captures the essence of the Hamptons. When it comes to entertainment, whether you prefer a live band, DJ, or string quartet, we recommend talents that understand the locale's ambiance and can tailor their performance to your event’s overall theme.

Additionally, always consider the layout of your venue and the flow of the event when planning your catering and entertainment. Ensure there is ample space for buffet setups or plated service, as well as for any entertainment setups. We help coordinate these logistics, keeping in mind the timing of the event to ensure that everything from appetizers to the main course is served at the perfect moment, complemented by entertainment that keeps the energy alive throughout the celebration.

Managing Guest Logistics: Parking and Accommodations

Handling guest logistics effectively can greatly enhance the comfort and accessibility of your Hamptons event. Adequate parking is a must, particularly in such a high-traffic area during the summer season. We assist in arranging convenient parking solutions, possibly including valet services, to ensure that guests are not inconvenienced by a lack of nearby parking. Additionally, for guests who are traveling from out of town, securing accommodations is essential. We often recommend partnering with local hotels and rental homes that offer discounts for event groups, ensuring every guest has a place to stay close to the event site.

Considering transportation options is also crucial. For larger events or venues located off the main roads, arranging shuttles or car services may be advisable to ensure everyone arrives safely and on time. By managing these details, we ensure that your event goes smoothly from start to finish, making it memorable for all the right reasons.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, planning and executing a successful event in the Hamptons requires meticulous attention to every detail, from the setting and theme to the food, entertainment, and logistics. By choosing the right partners and focusing on local expertise, you can create an event that’s both beautiful and resonant with the unique spirit of the Hamptons.

Kicking Off Pride Month: Jordan Roth Hosts Luncheon and Tour at MAD

In a vibrant kickoff to Pride Month, Jordan Roth was the guest of honor at a luncheon and tour at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) in New York City. The event, hosted by Chair Emerita Barbara Tober and Director Tim Rodgers, celebrated two compelling exhibitions currently on display: OUT of the Jewelry Box and Identity Is…. These exhibitions explore themes of queerness, identity, and artistic expression through unique and thought-provoking pieces.

The OUT of the Jewelry Box exhibition features 56 works on loan from The Porter Price Collection. This collection showcases wearable art from a queer perspective, delving into themes such as AIDS, closetedness, and identity. MAD Curator Elissa Auther explained, “This art is designed to make us think differently about what jewelry can be, and appreciate queerness from perspectives we don’t usually see.” This collection, worn and given by two gay men, Ron Porter and Joe Price, is a first of its kind for the gallery.

Identity Is…, another highlight of the event, features a coat designed by Michael Sylvan Robinson for Jordan Roth to wear at the 2021 Met Gala. The coat, currently displayed in the Barbara Tober Grand Atrium, is hand-stitched into a collage with pieces of art and fragments of Roth’s writing. “We are conditioned to think of art as only that which is framed or put on a pedestal—some art is worn, some art is hung on the ear or the neck,” noted Roth. He praised MAD’s curatorial rigor and its platform that allows visitors to see art in its many forms.

Barbara Tober, a longtime friend of Jordan’s mother, Daryl Roth, expressed her pride in celebrating Pride at MAD. “Pride has always been an integral part of this museum,” she said. Tim Rodgers added, “Craft has always been intertwined with the queer community, and it is important to celebrate that. As a gay man who has been out throughout his career, it is a pleasure to lead this institution.”

The event was graced by notable guests including MAD Board Chair Michele Cohen, Bjorn Amelan and Bill Jones, Frederick Anderson, Mickey Boardman, Louis Bofferding, Randall Bourscheidt, Ron Chereskin, Dan Clay (A.K.A Carrie Dragshaw), Jamie deRoy, Lee Fryd, Kelly Graham and Will Fleming, Alvin Hall, David Hochberg, Tony Ingrao, Richie Jackson, Paolo Martino and Frank Riti, Bob Morris, Michael Musto, Tinu Naija, Wang Newton, Cheryl Riley, Scott Rothkopf, Sophie Sumner, Bronson Van Wyck, and MAD Curators Elissa Auther and Barbara Paris Gifford.
