7 Must Stops for Food & Drink in LA

Gabriella Pryor

While the pandemic has stopped the usual way we dine out, that hasn't stopped these spots from continuing to cater to the public. Whether you're a local, traveling for work, or safely escaping your regular quarantine location, these are some places you should definitely check out for a memorable afternoon or evening outing.

EP & LP - West Hollywood

When cruising through busy West Hollywood looking for a multi-versed stop, EP & LP  has you covered. Although Asian Eating House, EP,  is temporarily closed,  that doesn’t stop their outdoor LP rooftop from flourishing 4 pm - 2 am, Monday-Friday and 12 pm-2 pm Saturday & Sunday,  serving refreshing drinks and bites to enjoy a prime view of the Hollywood Hills and Sunset Boulevard that will leave you feeling like a local and tourist all in one.

ADRIFT Burger Bar LA - Venice

If milkshakes are your forte, ADRIFT Burger Bar is the stop for you. Featuring Michelin starred David Myers’ burgers to pair them with and the beach just steps away, there isn’t much to be upset about. Open 11:30 am-9 pm Monday-Sunday, the combo options are truly limitless. ADRIFT is just classy enough to make you feel that you're meeting all your aesthetic desires while inducing yourself into a burger and milkshake food coma.

Foragers Table Re-Opens With Worldly New Executive Chef Olivier Palazzo

Annabella Pardo

A quiet corridor in the heart of Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood once again pulses with culinary vitality with the reopening of Foragers Market and their restaurant, Foragers Table. The decade-old farm-to-table favorite – which closed during the Pandemic – is now helmed by new Executive Chef Olivier Palazzo, and features his boldly reimagined “modern-Mediterranean” menu along with a far-sighted wine and cocktails program.

Photo via @foragersnyc

Worldly and well-traveled, Palazzo’s influence will also extend to the Market’s beloved “grab-and-go” grocery. And the restaurant – tucked gently just beyond the Market – will debut an after-hours live music program with a relaxed and jazzy vibe.

Photo via @foragersnyc

“Olivier embodies a younger, more international, more inclusive generation that is increasingly calling New York City home,” says Anna Castellani, who owns Foragers’ Chelsea location with partner Michael D’Amato. “His mix of cuisines and focus on vegetables not only reflects the future of food – but the future of New York itself.”

Born in West Africa and raised in the South of France, Palazzo’s contemporary, plant-focused cuisine is global, sustainable and nourishing for body and soul. Working with local purveyors across the Hudson Valley, Palazzo and Castellani have devised a season-driven dining experience that marries the best in regional bounty with French, Italian and Israeli flavors and techniques. A veteran of Parisian restaurants such as the Michelin-starred Le Quinzième – as well as Cyril Lignac’s Aux Prés and Le Chardenoux – Palazzo formally joined the Foragers family in February.

Photo via @foragersnyc

“My grandfather was actually from Sicily, so our Mediterranean-with-a-twist menu feels completely authentic to me,” says Palazzo, who began cooking for his own family during his early childhood in the Ivory Coast. “Plus, I’m a long-time Chelsea resident who’s been eating at Foragers for years – they just didn’t know that I was a chef!”

Photo via @foragersnyc

The reopening of Foragers Table marks the latest milestone for co-owner Castellani, the creative mind behind Dekalb Market Hall – the largest food hall in all of Brooklyn – along with The Hugh Food Hall in Midtown. In April, Castellani will open ANA Bar & Eatery, an all-day restaurant, marketplace and eatery at The Hudson Yards.

Foragers Table is open Tuesday through Sunday for dinner service only starting at 5pm to 10pm. For reservations or more information, go to OpenTable or visit www.foragersmarket.com/restaurant.  Foragers Table is located at 233 8th Avenue in Chelsea.

Drinks To Celebrate St. Patrick's Day 2022

St. Patrick’s Day is on the horizon, which means it’s time to start planning your celebrations. When people think about St. Patrick’s Day drinks, the first thing that often comes to mind is a pint of Guinness and a shot of Jameson. While those are definitely good choices (we’ll certainly be having one — or three— on the big day), St. Patrick’s Day drinks can actually be a whole lot more.

If you’re looking to shake things up this St. Patrick’s day, here are a few cocktails to try:

Proper Coffee Drop

  • .75 oz Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey

  • .25 oz Coffee Liqueur

  • 10 oz Irish Stout

Pour Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey Irish Whiskey and coffee liqueur and into a shot glass and drop into a pint glass of Irish Stout.

As one of the most celebrated holidays globally, St. Patrick’s Day is all about bringing people together, and what better way to do that than by raising a glass of Elysian Brewing’s best-selling Space Dust IPA (8.2% ABV), which balances bitterness with the sweetness of grapefruit, mango and orange aromas.

If you’re searching for “something green” to bring to your St. Patrick’s Day party, look no further! Space Dust’s iconic green mascot, Dusty, featured on every can and bottle, is here to help you avoid the pinch. Plus, the Elysian team has released an easy-to-make festive drink recipe called the Irish Astronaut, which cleverly features 50% Nitro Irish Stout and 50% Space Dust IPA.

This St. Patrick’s Day, skip the stouts and shots and celebrate Ireland in luxury. Glendalough Distillery is the first Irish whiskey brand to use the rare and exotic Mizunara oak, where the woods of Wicklow meet the island of Hokkaido in the form of a rare, exquisite whiskey. Unlock Glendalough 7-Year-Old Single Malt Mizunara Finish – the key to your best, most elevated St. Patrick’s Day yet!

Mizunara’s rarity makes sourcing a great undertaking, but Glendalough was ready for the challenge of being the first Irish whiskey to utilize this oak. The trunks of these uniquely beautiful trees are prone to growing twisted, and they must grow to be twice the age of most oak trees before they can be felled. It then takes three years to dry, and even then, is notoriously difficult to cooper due to its porousness. However, therein lies its saving grace: whiskey can seep deeper into the wood, resulting in an alluring, exotic flavor.

  • 1 TBSP Chia seeds

Combine Mezcal Montelobos Espadín, Ancho Reyes Verde, Chia seeds, simple syrup, and lime juice in a shaker and shake well. Serve over a Collins glass with ice and add seltzer water to top off. Stir with a spoon.

Spicy Verde Margarita

  • 45 ml Espolòn Blanco

  • 15 ml of Ancho Reyes Verde

  • 30 ml Fresh Lime Juice

  • 10 ml agave syrup (depending on sweetness)

  Garnish

  • Sea salt crust rim (half rim is a good option)

  • Lime peel or wedge

Shake ingredients with plenty of ice, double strain in a in a coupette. Garnish with lime peel/wedge.

  • 1 part Jameson Cold Brew

  • 2 parts Cola

Tullamore D.E.W. Irish Whiskey

St. Paddy’s Day is almost here, and with nearly 200 St. Paddy’s Days under its belt, Tullamore D.E.W. Irish Whiskey knows a thing or two, not only about celebrating the holiday itself, but how to actually spell it. Year in and year out, Americans seem to get it wrong, opting for the use of the double T instead of the double D…

To offer a tasty spelling lesson, Tullamore D.E.W. has partnered with acclaimed American butcher Pat LaFrieda to create the ultimate St. Paddy’s Day Patty to help fans from making the common spelling mistake between a meat patty and Ireland’s national holiday.

The specialty St. Paddy’s Day Patty is made up of a proprietary blend made by Pat himself and inspired by Tullamore D.E.W. Beginning Thursday, March 10th, 193 kits will be made available via LaFrieda.com nodding to the 193-year history behind the Tullamore D.E.W. brand.

For some, when hearing "morning drinks" the first thing that pops into their mind is Fruhschoppen! It's a real German tradition where you drink beer in the morning. The usual go-to beer is a light & fruity hefeweizen wheat beer , Schofferhofer Grapefruit Hefeweizen beer.

It's a refreshing & delicious combo of 50% real German hefeweizen and 50% grapefruit juice. And with a lower 2.5% ABV, Schofferhofer Grapefruit Hefeweizen is the perfect morning libation. Even though we may not be in Bavaria, we think every Mom (or Dad) deserves to take part in a little Fruhschoppen once and a while.

It has a good balance between the alcoholic and the acidic component, with the tannins’ impact that can sometimes be fairly intense. Nero is perfect with pasta for a late brunch or early lunch pairing.

Nero d'Avola Riserva is among the most popular options when it comes to choosing an important red. Doc Sicilia has introduced this typology in 2015, indicating a minimum of two years for the aging process.

Compared to the Nero d’Avola, the Riserva has a ruby tone that steers toward garnet color, has a more intense flavor of red fruits and has a longer lasting finish. Nero d’Avola Riserva is delicious when having a breakfast with meats and sausages.

Pairs well with first courses of baked pasta and savory cheeses. For its pleasant structure and intense aromaticity, the Stemmari Hedonis Nero d'Avola pairs ideally with typical Sicilian dishes, Spaghetti alla Norma, with eggplant, and smoked ricotta cheese.

La Segreta Nero d'Avola takes its name from the woods which surround our Ulmo vineyard. This young fresh wine principally produced from Nero d’Avola grapes, flagship of Sicilian wine, gains its personality and style with the addition of some international grapes. Lovely to unwind with in the morning while overlooking your garden.

Epicentro Nero d'Avola Riserva is not just a wine, Epicentro is a story. It is the story of a territory - and even more of a land - which has been able to transform a catastrophic and devastating event such as an earthquake into a starting point for cultural, economic and productive growth.
