When Cast Iron Meets Ultra Minimalism

Luis Lucero

Looking at 476 Broadway from the street, it looks hardly any different from the countless other cast iron facade buildings that are predominant in SoHo. But in stark contrast to its historic facade, the interior is the latest in ultra modern design.

But in stark contrast to its historic facade, the interior is the latest in ultra modern design. The first thing that sticks out is its open spaces that is a mixture of modern minimalism and classic Japanese interiors. Other than a few pieces of art, the walls are largely bare. And what may look like part of the wall are actually inconspicuous doorways that led to hidden rooms that can be retooled to whatever purpose that a tenant would need. And the doorways aren’t the only hidden surprises.

Over in the kitchen, the stove top is hidden under the countertop, and all the shower toiletry can be stored in a custom wall behind the shower dial. Finally, there’s a rooftop garden that provides a panoramic view of Lower Manhattan, rivaling several of Manhattan’s most popular rooftop bars. And of course, lots of SoHo’s premiere eateries and bars are within walking distance.
