What you need to know to enjoy Las Vegas before you visit

December 16, 2022 by Jeremy Lindy

Planning A Trip To Las Vegas?

Planning a trip to Nevada’s most famous city, Las Vegas, is a fun task full of anticipation and excitement. Whether you are an avid poker player, a food appreciator or a hiker, there are many things to plan for your trip. However, there are things that you need to know before you leave to truly enjoy Las Vegas as much as possible. From the best buffets in Las Vegas to its countless casinos, there are many options to visit. To make sure you do everything you wanted in the timeframe of your trip, here is what you need to know to enjoy Last Vegas before you go.

Things You Should Know

1.  Large distances

Las Vegas is considered a small city compared to other American cities on the West Coast, with only 136 square miles. However, don’t be fooled by its seemingly small size because the distances between sites and attractions are longer than they may seem. The Las Vegas Strip alone is 4.2 miles. With that in mind, make sure to take into account the time it will take to get from one place to another. Have an estimate of the time it takes from your accommodation to the Stratosphere or the Mandalay Bay so you don’t miss anything.

2.  Book accommodation in the center of the Las Vegas Strip

Since the distances between activities and cultural spots are long, try to book accommodation in the center of the Las Vegas Strip so you won’t have to waste time in taxis and public transport. The Las Vegas Strip is also known for its casino hotels which will add a true Vegas feeling to your trip. Some of the Strip’s famous and affordable hotels include The Flamingo, the Paris Las Vegas Hotel, and the LINQ.

3.  Watch out for overly expensive fees

Make sure to keep a lookout for resort fees, as daily expenses can be added to your bill, which will quickly amount to a large sum. To avoid this, read the fine print in advance and book your hotel or accommodation on an online travel agency that will include the taxes and resort fees, so you don’t have to worry once you’re in Las Vegas.

4.  Avoid public holidays and weekends

It’s no secret that Las Vegas is a popular weekend getaway destination for a night out or a romantic trip. With that in mind, try avoiding public holidays and weekends for your trip, if possible. Vegas is a busy city, and going during the week can make the experience more fun and relaxing, with less waiting time and more liberty walking around the city, from Venice to Paris and Egypt.

5.  Prepare to walk

From its large distances to its walking attractions, Las Vegas is a city of walking, so don’t forget a comfortable pair of shoes. The entertainment complex, The Venetian Las Vegas, the Hoover Dam, and the Fountains of Bellagio are all unmissable attractions that require some walking, so prepare your shoes and take in the views.

6.  Make sure to pack appropriately

Comfortable walking shoes aren’t the only must-have in your luggage before you go to Las Vegas. Given the city is placed in the middle of the desert, the sun and the winds can be strong. With that in mind, pack some sunscreen and sunglasses for the day and some comfy sweaters for the evening. Also, carry water with you every day to ensure you’re never dehydrated.

7.  Adjust your sleep

Las Vegas is known for its 24/7 lifestyle mode, with many nightclubs, casinos, and always-lit streets. Most places in the city center stay open until the early hours of the morning, so adjust your biological clock before going and prepare for some fun late nights. Don’t lose track of time, and remember to make the most out of Vegas’ many famous nightlife activities.

8.  Book everything in advance

As we know, Las Vegas is a busy city, never sleeping and always being visited. Reserve everything you can in advance to avoid missing out on any spots you want to visit and see. The city’s popular fine dining and bars fill up quickly, so don’t hesitate to go on the best restaurants’ websites in advance to book your spot. This will make your trip less stressful and more enjoyable.
