The Only Moving Supplies List You'll Ever Need

November 26, 2021 by Jeremy Lindy

Moving isn’t an easy task, but you can make the process easier and smooth with proper planning and supplies. There are unlimited supplies for packing your belongings, and you can easily get lost. NYC movers can provide you with the right moving supplies. It’s important to find the right-sized boxes and packing paper to safely transport your items from one location to another.

Unfortunately, most people don’t even know about the must-have moving supplies. So, here we’ll discuss everything you need for a successful move. Remember, the best practice is to get them at least one month before your moving day.

List of Moving Supplies for a Successful Move

The below-given moving supplies are much needed for every type of move.

1. Boxes

When you plan a move, you need different-sized boxes. For large items, large boxes are required. Ensure that you get small but sturdy boxes for heavy items. Moreover, you can keep lightweight things in large boxes. Visit a local liquor store to get some liquor boxes. These boxes are good because they contain dividers between them.

You can use these boxes to pack your kitchenware. When packing items in the box, ensure that you keep the boxes’ capacity in mind. Overfilling and underfilling can make them prone to damage. Finally, when you keep their capacity in mind, you can easily load and unload them from the moving truck.

2. Packing Tape

Ensure that you have a stock of shipping tape for sealing boxes. You also need to have masking tape to label boxes. Get duct tape to close heavier boxes. Finally, you can get painting tape to do some immediate painting.

The best practice is to get a couple of rolls of each tape so that you don’t run short of them during the packing and moving process.

3. Scissors and Cutters

You must have multiple scissors and cutters in hand during the packing and moving process. They can help during the unpacking process as well.

4. Markers

It’s essential to label boxes, so you need markers for this purpose. The best approach is to establish a color-code system, and you need colored markers or stickers for this task. You can mark boxes according to room numbers. Moreover, it can help you to protect your delicate items from damage. Use these markers to write the content of each box.

5. Packing Material

For household moves, you need lots of protective packing material. You’ll have to invest lots of money in packing materials, but it can help you protect your expensive items from damage. The best way is to purchase bubble wrap from a local store. If you don’t have enough money, you can use newspapers, towels, clothes, and blankets to protect your belongings.

6. Cleaning Supplies

After the COVID-19 safety guidelines were changed, the government implemented many restrictions, and everyone needed to follow them. Now you need to get lots of cleaning supplies, and it will take some effort and money. Hiring someone to clean and disinfect your home looks a good option, but it’s not recommended. The safest and cheapest option is to clean your home yourself.

Ensure that you have the following cleaning supplies, dustpan, vacuum, paper towels, bucket, glass cleaners, and broom. When using sanitizing and cleaning agents, ensure that you understand the safety instructions.

7. Simple Tool Set

You can’t move some items without disassembling them, such as beds and dining tables. Some basic tools are required to disassemble and load items into the moving truck. Screw ranch and other tools should be easily accessible.

8. Dollies and Hand Trucks

It’s not a wise approach to buy these items. Instead, you can rent them from a moving company. Renting a dolly is much cheaper than purchasing a new one. If you want to move bulky items from stairs, the best approach is to get wearable moving straps. You can use these straps to move heavier items easily.

9. Garbage Bags

When you decide to move, you need to have plenty of garbage bags in hand. You can use these bags to throw away the trash. If you have extra garbage bags, don’t throw them because they can help at your new place.

10. Cargo Straps

If you’re moving yourself, you need to purchase some cargo straps. These ropes are crucial and prevent your items from shifting in the moving truck. When you don’t get and use them, the items will move around and collide with each other. As a result, they can get damaged. Straps should be thick to hold heavy furniture in place.

Final Words

When you decide to move, you need lots of moving supplies. We have discussed the most important ones here. Ensure that you have all these supplies in hand at least a month before your move.
