Successfully Incorporate Houseplants Into Your Home With These Simple Tips

March 09, 2023 by Jeremy Lindy

There are many ways that you can enhance your home to make it more appealing and relaxing. For instance, you can have smart home technologies installed to make tasks easier, or even add spa-like amenities to promote relaxation. However, these kinds of home improvements require time and financial commitment.

One simple thing that you can do to improve your home is by adding houseplants. Not only will they add to the visual appeal of your space, but they are very much on trend, too. In fact, experts from The New York Design Center state that this year, organic greens with focus on plants, natural materials, and sustainability will make a splash. However, while anyone can get a variety of houseplants, there are certain steps you can take to ensure that they thrive in your home.

Correct Care

One thing that you need to consider when bringing houseplants into your home is the kind of care that you can give them. If you don’t know how to care for the kind of houseplant that you are bringing in, there’s a chance that you might end up with a wilted plant in your place. As such, it is wise to at least learn from the best practices, as well as the most common mistakes plant owners do.

For instance, the most common mistake that plant owners make is overwatering, leaving plants in a consistently moist environment. This, in turn, attracts pathogens that cause root rot, which causes the plant to wilt. This is why plant owners should make sure that the soil is completely dry before watering again. Remember that houseplants require just the right care and attention for them to look their best. When you grow house plants, you need to at least be informed of how to properly care for them to make sure that they look lively and luxurious.

Fit for Your Place

When choosing houseplants, you need to make sure that they are suitable for your place. This holds true when it comes to the plant’s wellbeing and also when it comes to the aesthetics of your home. You need to consider the amount of light that gets into your home and the space that you have. These two factors are critical if you want to make sure that your plants thrive in your home. As a general rule, plants should be placed two to three feet away from high-light windows. However, if your place does not have this kind of feature, you can opt for plants that thrive even in indoor lighting, such as the ZZ plant or the snake plant.

Intentional Arrangement

One of the main reasons why people bring houseplants into their home is to brighten up their place. As such, it won’t do to simply put them wherever there’s an empty spot in your home. You need to be intentional when incorporating houseplants into your place. Otherwise, no matter how healthy your plants may look, they might end up cluttering up your place.

There are a few design principles that you can bear in mind when adding houseplants into your home. Bigger plants, for example, go well in larger spaces with minimalist fittings. Smaller plants, on the other hand, can be used even when your space already has a lot of décor. You can try experimenting when it comes to mixing and matching the plants that you are displaying as long as they don’t look out of place.

Houseplants can do wonders in your home. They are sure to brighten up your space, turning it into your very own sanctuary.. With these simple tips, you can make sure that you can successfully integrate houseplants into your home.
