Reinvent Your Style In 10 Steps

January 11, 2022 by Jeremy Lindy

It’s a brand new year and the perfect time to reinvent your style. Finding your own personal style can take a little time, but the result is well worth the effort. To help you revamp your style in 2022, focus on these ten tips.

1 . Check out Instagram

If you’re keen to switch up your style, Instagram is a great place to start. On the gram, you can find plenty of fashion influencers, for all the style ideas you need. According to Realmenrealstyle magazine, the top style influencers to follow right now include Adam Gallagher, Mariano Divaio, and Justin Liv. Explore a few accounts, save plenty of pictures, and perhaps create a fashion mood board? It’s a great way to gather your ideas together.

2. Read fashion publications

Perhaps you’d like a new look this year, but you aren’t sure where to begin? Fashion publications are a great starting point. Read up on the latest styles, and what to expect from the fashion scene this year. Some of the top men’s fashion magazines include GQ, Esquire, and Men’s Vogue. This year it’s all about garish patterns, oversized knitwear, and a focus on sustainability.

3. Consider style options

You can’t reinvent your style unless you understand your options. Perhaps you’d like to create a trendy streetwear look with a pair of Air Max 95 sneakers? Maybe you’re looking to try an eccentric vintage style? Perhaps you feel a more classic style would suit you?

If you’re looking to stay on-trend, throwback 90s styles are trending right now. To create the look, experiment with cargo pants, bucket hats, and biker jackets. When you’re choosing leather jackets for men you’ll need to find a quality brand.

4. Body positivity

Finding your own style is about confidence and self-expression. When you’re attempting to find the right look don’t forget about body positivity. So what does body positivity mean exactly? It’s the notion that every person deserves to feel good about themselves, despite what we are taught about the ‘perfect’ body. Many of us shy away from wearing certain clothes because we’re worried that ‘we don’t have the right shape’. Body positivity is about rejecting these ideas and wearing anything that makes you feel good!

5. Learn about sustainability

If you’d like to create a new look it’s helpful to learn about sustainability. We all want to look stylish but it’s important to think about the planet too. To remain both stylish and sustainable, remember these tips:

  • Don’t be afraid to shop in second-hand or vintage stores, here you can find some seriously cool items at a great price.

  • Recycle or donate any of your old garments that you no longer wear.

  • Support sustainable fashion brands as much as possible. Check out the new trendy slow fashion footwear GroundedPeople Shoes for a sustainable footwear option.

  • Look out for green materials, a few options include soy cashmere, hemp, bamboo, and organic cotton.

6. Get a second opinion

Shopping for clothing items can get a little confusing, if you find yourself a bit lost, it’s helpful to get a second opinion. Ask your other half or your friends to join you on a shopping trip. Get their honest comments, and use these to help you create your new look. If you don’t know much about fashion you’ll certainly be glad of a second opinion!

7. Research top brands

Finding the right brands is crucial, you’ll want to purchase from quality brands that use quality materials. Cheaper items don’t always last, which fuels the fast fashion culture and creates waste. To help you shop in the right places it’s useful to do your research first. To search for ethical brands use Good On You, this tool will give you plenty of helpful advice including sustainability scores.

According to The Trend Spotter, the best men’s streetwear brands right now include Supreme, Stüssy, Undercover, and Obey. If you’re looking to create a cool streetwear look this year, these brands are a great shout.

8. Dare to go bold

Reinventing your style is an opportunity to step out of your comfort zone. Why not use it as an opportunity to go bold? Try out an eccentric and colorful look, experiment with patterns, and try clothes that you wouldn’t usually wear. Just because you’re trying something on it doesn’t mean that you’re committing to buy it. There’s no harm in testing out a few different looks. When you go bold with your style you’ll stand out and turn heads. Remember, fashion can be an art form if that’s what you’re looking for!

9. Take plenty of pictures

Revamping your style can be plenty of fun, so don’t forget to take plenty of pictures. Take pictures for your Instagram, or just for you. When you’re trying on clothes it can be useful to snap a few pics too. If you’re not sure whether to buy a garment or not, you can always look back at the pictures later on. As a general rule, if you’re unsure about an item it’s probably best to choose something else. Buying items you aren’t sure about can easily create waste.

10. Further inspiration

Need a little further style inspiration? Why not check out a few fashion podcasts? To learn a few style tips today, make a start with these:

Style & Direction: S&D is a podcast that focuses on classic menswear and vintage clothes. Your hosts Ethan & Spencer interview plenty of stylish guests, bringing you all the latest fashion tips.

The takeaway

There are so many different ways that you can use fashion to express yourself. Reinventing your style is a great way to kickstart the new year. The first step is to find a little fashion inspiration. There are plenty of places to find inspiration, from social media to fashion blogs. Using these ten tips you’ll find your perfect style.
