How to get your garden ready for summer

Summer isn’t far off now and before you know it it’ll be time to throw the first event of the season. No matter whether you fancy a big party with all your close friends or kicking back with a beer at a chilled-out barbeque, you’ll want your garden to look its best. 

It’s easy to get complacent about keeping your garden in order over the colder months; after all, no one’s thinking about taking date night outdoors when it’s blowing a gale! So, chances are you’ll need to put in a little elbow grease to get your garden summer ready. 

Here, we outline a few suggestions to get you started.   

Install decking

A deck is a great way to improve the appearance of your garden and will also create additional space for entertaining, perfect for those summer garden parties! While it may be tempting to grab your toolkit and take on the challenge yourself, it would be best to hire a professional to ensure you get the best outcome. 

Installing decking can be costly, so you may need to assess your financial situation before you give the construction team the go-ahead. 

Get gardening

No one wants to spend time in an overgrown garden that’s teeming with weeds. If you’re thinking of hosting a summer barbecue or even just enjoying an al fresco dinner or two, you may want to give your garden a bit of a spruce. 

While there are a number of chemicals on the market that can be used to kill weeds, manual removal will provide instant results, so you can start spending time in your garden sooner. Once the weeds are cleared, all you’ll have to do is trim the grass with a lawnmower. 

Clean up the shed 

The shed is one of those parts of the home which tends to be neglected until summer arrives. If yours is in a bit of a state, set aside some time to do a clear-out and throw away anything you no longer need.

Check the structure of the shed for any damage that needs repairing, then give it a good clean to get rid of any dust and dirt that’s built up. If it’s looking a bit tired and run down, you can paint your shed to freshen it up.

Garden furniture 

If you have any garden furniture, inspect it for wear and tear, then give it a good clean. Wooden chairs and benches may benefit from a coat or two of varnish to give them a luscious sheen and make them look new again. 

If you haven’t got any garden furniture, this is a great time to invest in some. The addition of a dinner table and some chairs or benches will make hosting friends or enjoying a meal outside much more comfortable.
