How to Create a Long-Lasting Wardrobe

January 24, 2023 by Jeremy Lindy

If you're in the process of updating your wardrobe, consider taking time on it so that you can create a long-lasting wardrobe. From the materials of the clothing to the styles that you wear, there are different things to pay attention to so that you can get plenty of wear out of your clothes. Here are some tips to help you create the best wardrobe possible:

Find the best fits

To ensure a long-lasting wardrobe with pieces you want to wear, shop around for the best fits. You may be used to buying clothes larger than your size, whether because of unexpected weight loss or body dysmorphia.

But what if you tried wearing clothes that actually fit? Next time that you shop for clothes, consider trying a different size. You might look smashing in petite tops and pants and have been wearing the wrong size all along. You'd be amazed at how wearing the right fits for your body can completely change your look. Consider working with an image consultant to help you determine the best fits and looks for you.

Buy quality

Another thing to consider as you shop for a new wardrobe is the materials used to make clothing. You want to look for clothing that is created to last, especially if your priority is buying clothes that can be worn for years to come. According to Fair Indigo, organic clothing helps reduce environmental impact by focusing on eco-friendly materials and ethical production methods, ensuring quality that lasts.

Brands like Woman Within focus on comfort-driven design and inclusive sizing, making it easier to build a wardrobe filled with pieces you’ll actually want to wear again and again over the years.

When looking at the actual quality of the clothes you're buying, don't forget to be mindful of how the clothes are manufactured and whether the brand has sustainable practices. Quality is not just about the durability of your clothing, but also the quality of the brand.

Feel comfortable

You won't want to wear your wardrobe for months or years if the clothes are uncomfortable. Comfort is paramount to a long-lasting wardrobe, as you'll want to keep going back to those fits again and again.

You may find the most adorable clothes with a clothing subscription, but they may not provide you with the comfort you want. You might wear them once or twice, but when something doesn't feel good on you, you're probably not going to wear it often. This is where finding the best materials and fit is beneficial to your wardrobe. The key to creating a long-lasting wardrobe is finding comfortable clothes.

Timeless pieces win

Styles change, and while your closet should definitely have some statement pieces, you want to include a variety of staple pieces that will never go out of style. Basics can be useful, as you can pair them with basically anything in your closet. And as fashion trends come and go, so will your statement pieces, but your basics will stay the same.

Whether you invest in a few solid white tees or a little black dress that can be used for versatile occasions, create a long-lasting wardrobe with pieces that stand the test of time.

Don't go overboard

Buying a bunch of clothes may be exciting in the moment, but owning an abundance of clothes isn't as great as it seems. A lot of your clothes will probably go unused, and you'll end up wasting money in the end. Instead, shop for the essentials and a few extras that make you feel good.

When changing your wardrobe, consider selling your old clothes on Poshmark or donating to a charity. This way, you make good use of your closet without getting overwhelmed with clothes you never wear.

In Conclusion

If you're looking to create a wardrobe that you can depend on for a long time, it's important to shop wisely. From sustainable brands to durable materials, look for the abovementioned components when shopping for your 2023 wardrobe refresh.
