Landscaping Tips for New Homeowners

Landscaping Tips for New Homeowners

April 01, 2020 by Jeremy Lindy

No matter your age or place in life, being a new homeowner is exciting. You have a lot of aspects to customize in order to create your dream living space. Many new homeowners focus on their homes’ interiors, but they often neglect other important parts of the property, such as the landscaping. Unkempt landscaping leads to an ugly exterior, which decreases the curb appeal and even the home’s value. That’s why you need these landscaping tips for new homeowners. They’ll help you create a green space around your home as efficiently as possible.

Have a Plan

Whether your house is currently being built or you bought one already on the market, you should always have a plan for the landscaping. Keep in mind the intended purpose of your lawn. This can include room for kids and pets to play on it, additional outdoor features such as a pool or deck, a backyard garden, or simply some green space. The yard might already have some plants or trees; whether you keep any preexisting greenery or replace it entirely is up to you. Don’t forget that it’s your lawn—you have the right to make it however you see it. Alternatively, employing the services of a landscape designer in Minneapolis (or your local area) might help take away some of the stress that your idea isn't fully up to scratch, they could help you do a full transformation for you or act as a consult for your ideas and help you enact your vision.

Set a Budget

Once you have a set plan, you can establish a budget. This encompasses how much money you expect to spend before and after all the work is done. You should have an idea of how much you want to spend; you can adjust this number based on your personal tastes, desired curb appeal, and quality of work. Additionally, if you're considering outsourcing specific services, such as hiring a company that provides tree lopping in Perth, for instance, it's important to factor in those costs as well. You should never cut corners for quality landscaping, otherwise, you’ll just spend more money trying to repair any damage.Keep It Reasonable

You can partially attribute a well-kept yard to regular maintenance, so keep your new landscaping maintenance reasonable by dividing it into manageable sections. The first part should include all basics, such as foundation shrubs, shade trees, and flower beds. The second phase can include any accessory pieces, such as fountains or accent plants. Finally, the third phase can account for any large additions such as pools, decks, or patios. Another possibility is to opt for low-maintenance landscaping options such as artificial grass, which doesn’t require fertilizer or yardwork. Thanks to companies like EasyTurf, it won't be a problem to find the right artificial grass near you. No matter what, as a new homeowner, you should do your best to make maintenance as reasonable as possible.
