Three States Perfect for a Sporty Weekend Getaway

June 17, 2022 by Jeremy Lindy

It is no secret that New Yorkers love sports. Why would they not because some of the biggest and most famous sports teams on the planet call New York home. We have the New York Knicks, the New York Yankees, and the New York Giants for a start, plus a whole host of events taking place at the iconic Madison Square Garden on a seemingly constant basis. But what if you fancy a weekend away from the Big Apple yet still want to fill your spare time with some top-tier sports? Well, you head to one of these three sports-loving states.

California

California is the most populous of all the states, so, unsurprisingly, the Golden State has a super-high concentration of teams playing from within its borders. Californians are spoiled for choice when it comes to taking in a game during their spare time, whether they are fans of the MLB, NBA, NFL, MLB, or even soccer.

Basketball fans can soak up the atmosphere as the Los Angels Clippers, world famous Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings, or Golden State Warriors take to the court. Head to California in the next week or two, and you could see the Golden State Warriors in action against the Boston Celtics in the 2022 NBA Finals. You may even be able to win back the cost of your trip to Cali because you can enjoy online betting in California but do not get too carried away.

Even if you are not the biggest baseball fan in the world, paying a visit to Candlestick Park is worthwhile. The iconic stadium has been the home to some of America's most popular sports teams and hosting dozens of concerts, including The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Metallica.

Texas

The Lone Star State of Texas, our second-largest and second-most populous state is another steeped in sporting history. Texans are mad for sports, especially American Football. The Dallas Texans were the first major-league sports team in Texas, joining the league all the way back in 1952. However, financial troubles saw the Texas fold, and the Dallas Cowboys formed in 1960. The Dallas Cowboys have since gone on to become the world's most valuable sports team, with Forbes slapping a whopping $6.5 billion valuation on them!

Baseball is also immensely popular in Texas, with thousands of fans watching the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers in action. Of the two teams, only the Astros have won the coveted World Series title, doing so in 2017.

Florida

The Sunshine State of Florida is home to several of American sports' most recognizable teams, including the NFL's Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins are the oldest major-league professional sports team in Florida, having been founded in 1966. Dolphins fans enjoyed a considerable amount of success during the 1970s and 1980s, which were the golden years. Dolphins have struggled for consistency over the past couple of decades and have not reached the playoffs since 2016. However, Fins fans' loyalty never wanes, and the Dolphins still boast of an average attendance of more than 64,000 despite a lack of success on the field.

If you head to Florida while the 2022 NFL season is in full swing, make sure you take a trip to the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. This is where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers play their home games. Who plays for the Bucs? The legendary Tom Brady, who made a dramatic U-turn on his retirement and will probably play his last season in 2022. This could b the last chance you get to see football's greatest-ever quarterback in action before he finally hangs up his helmet.
