3 Ways to Give Your Home a Traditional Look

3 Ways to Give Your Home a Traditional Look

March 24, 2020 by Jeremy Lindy in Open House

When it comes to choosing styles for your home, there are plenty of trends to peruse. If you aren’t sure what you want for your home, consider a traditional look. The pleasing symmetry, elegant wooden floors, and classic pieces have stood the test of time and can create a beautiful style for your home both today and in the years to come. If these elements sound appealing for your home, consider these three ways to give your home a traditional look.

Another subtle way to bring a traditional feel into your home is by choosing classic lighting fixtures. Chandeliers, wall sconces, and table lamps with timeless designs can instantly elevate the space while adding a warm, inviting glow. Opt for fixtures made from brass, bronze, or glass with soft fabric shades to enhance that elegant touch. Placing matching lamps on either side of a sofa or bed also reinforces the sense of symmetry and harmony in the room.

Pay Attention to Symmetry

Symmetry is a staple of classic home design. It draws the eye and creates a feeling of balance and satisfaction in a room. Incorporate symmetry into your furniture and decorations as much as possible. You can double up on decorations or use similar pieces in order to create matching sides. For example, place two equal-sized picture frames on either side of a larger wall decoration. You can also buy matching nightstands for either side of your bed. French doors and symmetrical windows will also contribute to a room’s balance.

Furthermore, hardwood flooring ensures versatility across different rooms and design styles. Whether your home leans more traditional or mixes in modern elements, hardwood can provide a unifying foundation that ties everything together. Rugs can be layered over hardwood to add warmth, texture, and seasonal variety without sacrificing that timeless base. Additionally, hardwood is easier to clean than carpet and tends to collect fewer allergens, making it a smart and stylish choice for families or pet owners. Its long-lasting appeal and functional benefits make it an investment that enhances both comfort and resale value.

Hardwood Floors

Hardwood is a classic flooring option. It’s also extremely durable—some homes even still have their original hardwood flooring decades after the installation. Because of this, hardwood floors evoke an elegant, timeless feeling in a room. You can install engineered hardwood flooring in order to achieve that look for a more affordable price. In fact, there are many benefits of choosing engineered over solid hardwood for your home. Hardwood floors can come in many different species, colors, and textures, which means you can match it to just about any preexisting decorations, furniture, or color palettes that exist in your home.

Incorporate Different Time Periods

Part of a traditional look is appearing timeless. This means that one of the best ways to give your home a traditional look is to incorporate different periods and influences into your design. Look into oriental rugs to add a touch of elegance and cultural depth to your space. Combining classic furniture with intricate decor pieces can further enhance the traditional aesthetic. You can also keep an eye out for upcycled or secondhand pieces on online resale apps or in thrift stores. Pay attention to the colors and styles of each piece and don’t be afraid to experiment with mixing different looks. As long as you focus on quality furniture and decorations, you’ll find timeless pieces that are pleasing to both you and your home.
