Why It Pays To Pay More For Health Insurance

September 03, 2020 by Jeremy Lindy

Health insurance is expensive and costs are due to increase. Your earning power has reduced and your budget is lower. The obvious answer is to cut back on your policy and pay less. Of course, that means investing in a worse plan and potentially putting your wellbeing at risk.

However, how often do you use your policy? The odds are high that you'll be fine, right?

It's tempting to think this way because the worst-case scenarios rarely occur. But, when they do, you'll wish you had a comprehensive plan that covers your back according to the insurance experts from NY Health Insurance. Here are the reasons why it pays to pay more for health insurance.

Tailored Care

The key to high levels of mental and physical health is to create a care plan for the short, medium, and long-term. Most people don't do this because they only use their insurance when something goes wrong. Yet, if you have a point of service plan, you get several benefits, including a primary physician who coordinates your care. The out-of-pocket expenses aren't unaffordable either as referrals are included. Yes, it costs more per year, but you'll have a thorough strategy to rely on other than working out with free apps and tweaking your diet.

More Options

When you require treatment, you want to receive the best treatment in the state. It doesn't matter what it costs when your life's on the line - you're scared and will do anything to allay your fears. Whether you need access to one of the best MRI facilities in the world or a reputable specialist, you'll only be able to afford it if your insurer picks up the tab. Mostly, it's tough to finance a basic plan, and it gets more challenging with a 5% increase around the corner.

Your Employer

What does your boss have to do with your health? According to this Kaiser Family Foundation survey the answer is a lot as around 82% of people own a plan through their work. This is nothing to be ashamed of as it's a fantastic way to subsidize your monthly expenses. Still, there's no need to call it a day because your employer pays the tab. You can offset a policy that wouldn't typically be affordable by taking out a separate plan and covering the gaps in your main policy. Then, for a decent rate, you should be able to cover all the bases, with your boss's help, of course!

Peace Of Mind

Peace of mind is impossible to quantify. It's not something you can put into a spreadsheet and calculate along with your usual expenses. However, it's essential to your wellbeing since worrying about your health will lead to high-stress levels. If the idea of going to see a doctor or visiting a hospital is keeping you up at night, it may be worthwhile to pay more for insurance. When you do, you'll sleep more soundly knowing you'll get incredible care if anything happens to you or your family.

Have you reviewed your health insurance? Is it time to upgrade?
