How To Take Care of Non-Stick Pans

June 17, 2022 by Jeremy Lindy

If you have ceramic non-stick pans, then you will certainly want to make sure you take care of them properly. Even the best non-stick cookware requires extra love and attention because they are designed to work extra hard for you too.

In general, it really comes down to the manufacturers and the way they have designed it. The best ones are made to still have longevity and ensure that maintenance is simple. Also, it is helpful to always know how to take care of your non-stick pans, what to avoid doing, and other useful tips for the home cook.

First, let’s talk about all the reasons why you should have non-stick pans, to begin with.

Benefits of Non-Stick Pans

So what’s the fuss about non-stick pans and does it actually matter? The answer is yes, it absolutely does matter. Not only will it last for longer, but you will be able to make things to absolute perfection.

When you have a non-stick pan, you will be able to stick to the essential ingredients and not have to slather the pan in oil in the hopes that whatever you’re making doesn’t stick. It saves a ton of time and can prevent absolute disasters from occurring in the kitchen.

There are so many different types of non-stick cookware options to choose from, but in general, the best is ceramic cookware because it is the best when it comes to value, health benefits, and ease of care.

Care Requirements Vary

It is also important to realize that every type of non-stick pan and manufacturer will come with a whole unique set of care requirements.

In general, the price point will also set the tone for what will be required, as well as the actual non-stick coating used to ensure that nothing sticks. The best pans are made with the highest quality standards and use no chemicals to produce the no-stick result. But others do include chemicals, which means that if you cook your food at too high of a heat level you could be exposing your household to dangerous toxins.

That is also why you will often want to look at using ceramic cookware whenever possible. These pans not only are affordable for the average household but are made with zero risk of toxins being in the design.

Wash Before Using

Regardless of who you purchase a non-stick pan from, you will always want to make sure that you are washing it first before use with soap and warm water. This is because it removes any oils or dirt that the pan may have been exposed to before it got into your home. But unlike a cast iron pan, there is no primer needed to produce great results. After a quick rinse, it will be ready to go.

Be Smart with Utensil Use

When it comes to non-stick pans, you will want to ensure that you do not use metal utensils with their pans. This is because the edges can significantly damage the coating layer. Instead, try silicone or wooden utensils that are heat resistant and will not damage the non-stick coating.

As soon as a scratch is made on the coating, it is only a matter of time until it will start to peel. So this step is super important when it comes to caring for your non-stick pan.

Keep It at Moderate Heat

Another important tactic to remember when it comes to caring for your non-stick pan is to not overdo it on the heat. They are designed to cook to perfection using minimal heat. So you do not need to blast it too high to get the results you want. Plus, this helps ensure that the non-stick coatings last a lot longer and you get more life from the pan in the long run.

Let Cool Before Cleaning

This one is a golden rule when it comes to caring for your non-stick pan. Make sure that you do not put a hot pan directly in water after using. The huge shift in temperature can really impact the actual structure and non-stick coating of the pan. So a general rule of thumb is to eat your food before cleaning your pan, allowing it more than enough time to cool.

Wash By Hand Always

Finally, take the time to wash your non-stick pan by hand. This will ensure that the pan gets clean but that the coating is not damaged by the intensity of a dishwasher. Because it is non-stick, there really should not be any food stuck to it, and should only take a matter of minutes to clean. Make sure you also pat it down dry too when it is done.

Conclusion

Caring for non-stick pans is easy if you follow these simple tips and tricks! And you will love how easy it is to create delicious meals without an absolute mess to clean up afterward. So keep these care tips in mind and enjoy using your non-stick pan!
