The Ultimate Guide to Things to Do in New York City in March

March 15, 2023 by Jeremy Lindy in Events

March is a fantastic time to visit New York City. With the winter chill slowly giving way to spring sunshine, the city is bustling with energy and excitement. Here are some of the best things to do in New York City in March:

  1. St. Patrick's Day Parade Celebrate the Irish heritage of New York City by attending the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, which takes place on March 17th along Fifth Avenue. This is a great opportunity to see traditional Irish dancers, bagpipers, and floats, and to join in the festivities.

  2. Visit Central Park Take a stroll in Central Park and enjoy the crisp March air. The park is beautiful during this time of year with the trees just starting to bud and the flowers starting to bloom. The park is also a great place to have a picnic, play sports or just relax and people watch.

  3. The Orchid Show Visit the New York Botanical Garden and enjoy the annual Orchid Show, which features thousands of orchids on display. The show runs from late February to early April and is a great way to experience the beauty of nature in the city.

  4. Museum Exhibits Explore the city's many museums, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the American Museum of Natural History, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There are always new and interesting exhibits on display, so you can always find something that interests you.

  5. Broadway Shows Catch a Broadway show in one of the many theaters in the Theater District. March is a great time to see a show as the crowds are a bit smaller than during the peak tourist season. You can also score some great deals on tickets.

  6. Food Festivals Attend one of the many food festivals that take place in New York City in March, such as the NYC Vegetarian Food Festival or the NYC Craft Beer Festival. These festivals offer a great opportunity to try new foods and drinks from around the world.

  7. Explore the Neighborhoods Take a walking tour of some of New York City's diverse neighborhoods, such as Chinatown, Little Italy, or the Lower East Side. These neighborhoods are full of history, culture, and great food, so you're sure to have a great time exploring.

  8. Empire State Building Visit the top of the Empire State Building for stunning views of the city. It's a great way to see the city from above and get a sense of its vastness. Be sure to bring a camera to capture the stunning views.

  9. Shopping Hit the stores and boutiques of Fifth Avenue or SoHo and pick up some new spring fashions. March is a great time to shop in the city, as many stores offer discounts and deals on winter merchandise.

  10. Sports Games Catch a game of basketball or hockey in Madison Square Garden or visit Yankee Stadium for a baseball game. The city is home to some of the best sports teams in the world, so you're sure to have a great time at a game.

In conclusion, March is a great time to visit New York City, with plenty of exciting things to do and see. Whether you're interested in history, culture, food, or sports, the city has something for everyone. Be sure to take advantage of the beautiful weather and explore all that the city has to offer.
