Breckenridge Distillery Debuts a Bold New Rye Whiskey Distilled at 9,600 Feet

Breckenridge Distillery has added a new Rye Whiskey to its lineup, and it comes with the kind of backstory only a distillery sitting 9,600 feet above sea level can offer. The 100 proof rye, built from an 80 percent rye mash bill, is distilled at that extreme elevation in Breckenridge, Colorado, a process the distillery says shapes the spirit’s mouthfeel and finish in ways lower-altitude operations cannot replicate. Expect chocolate and cherry on the nose, cocoa and caramel up front, and a long, spicy rye finish. It is available now with a suggested retail price of $35 to $40.

Founded in 2008 by Bryan Nolt, Breckenridge Distillery bills itself as the World’s Highest Distillery, tucked between the peaks of the Continental Divide where Rocky Mountain water plays a starring role in the mineral character of every pour. The portfolio spans bourbon, whiskey, gin, vodka, rum, tequila, and a non-alcoholic line, and the accolades have piled up accordingly, including a World’s Best Finished Bourbon title, ten wins for Best American Blended Whiskey, and six Colorado Distillery of the Year honors.
