What does Mykonos offer for the seasoned traveller?

July 16, 2021 by Jeremy Lindy

In Greece, you will find the small and beautiful island of Mykonos located off the coast of Asia Minor. The island has a beautiful climate with mostly sunny days with gentle breezes. Mykonos is very popular among tourists and for decades it has been a go-to travel destination for its beautiful beaches, delicious cuisine, rich history, and lovely towns. Mykonos is considered one of the Aegean’s top destinations and it is no secret as to why. If you are looking to have an unforgettable vacation experience regardless of the season, then this is the location for you. Mykonos has an airport, which makes it very convenient, but it is also accessible if you are travelling via Athens because it is just a ferry trip away, which can last 3 - 5 hours. Mykonos has everything you need and more! So what does Mykonos have on offer for seasoned travellers? This article will explore in detail.

Summer

The best time to visit Mykonos is in June-August during the summertime. During this season you can enjoy time on the beach as well as many activities such as water sports and a fantastic nightlife for you to enjoy during summer. The daily temperature during summer is around 85-95 degrees Fahrenheit and during the summer this destination is the most crowded with international travellers. You can expect prices to peak and for accommodation to be fully booked very quickly so it is in your best interest to book in advance. If you want to experience a lot of activities, visit Platis Gialos Bay which is located 4km outside of Mykonos town. Here you will discover stunning beaches where you can go water skiing, jet skiing and wakeboarding. This location is perfect for families, friends, or couples. You can also enjoy snorkelling and scuba diving in Ftelia and Kalafatis. If you want to enjoy the nightlife, check out Paradise beach club which is considered one of the best clubs worldwide.

Fall

If you visit Mykonos in September- November, you will experience the island during fall which is a great time to visit. The weather is still warm and the colours of the island are beautiful and vivid. There are much fewer people on the island during this time but the weather is still warm enough for time on the beach as well as activities and exploration. One of the best things to do during September is kayaking where you can enjoy paddling through the crystal clear waters and into caves where you can witness wildlife and perhaps spot some dolphins, crocodiles, or hawks. One of the beautiful things about visiting during fall is that you can stay at a luxury villa at a reduced price. If you are a foodie, you can enjoy a food tour where you can experience some of the yummiest food the island has on offer. Fall is also the ideal time for horseback riding and you can still enjoy the warm water.

Spring

Spring in Mykonos is during March - May and it is considered one of the most pleasant times to visit the island. You can enjoy low prices during spring that will have you saving on accommodation and flights. There are fewer people so you can enjoy the food and restaurants on the island without having to queue and the service is also said to be better during this time of year. You should visit Chora where you can go sightseeing and day walking where you will find traditional Greek restaurants. You can also enjoy the ancient ruins of the Venetian Castle. For outdoor activities, you can enjoy golfing and horseback riding.

Winter

Even during winter, Mykonos is a great place to visit. It is still quite warm with the sun out shining. The island calms down in winter so it is the perfect time to explore and you will find great deals on accommodation as prices in winter drop. During winter, Mykonos is greener so you can enjoy the landscape as well as shopping which is perfect during this time because of the price drop. You can enjoy many cafes and restaurants and take a stroll through Little Venice where you can enjoy a quiet atmosphere. Because it is still warm during winter, you can leave the heavy jackets and coats at home. You can still enjoy the nightlife on the island but it is much cozier.
