Video Games that have taken inspiration from top travel destinations

June 18, 2021 by Jeremy Lindy

Video games can be a great way for players to experience some of the best and top travel destinations from around the world.

Of course, with the technology that is available currently, there will be more high-tech gaming consoles released in the market, such as Playstations and VR headsets for kids and adults. At the same time, many of the video games that are produced will include some of the best visuals and graphics, therefore making the game appear as real life as they can, whilst also providing a truly immersive experience in which those who play the games will feel as though they are exploring certain destinations.

The following destinations are just some of the top travel locations that have been used as a source of inspiration for some of the best video games around, including the likes of the Aztec region, Egypt and other locations around the world.

Egypt

Egypt has proven to be a popular travel destination for a number of travelers all over the world as the country is full of history, with plenty of iconic landmarks and figures having been provided in the era of Ancient Egypt.

Of course, the pyramids and tombs have always been a key attraction as has the hieroglyphics that can be found, as has the stories of Tutankhamun and Cleopatra, whilst the Gods and Pharaohs have left many intrigued and wanting to learn more.

Naturally, these popular themes have also helped Egypt become incredibly popular with video game developers, with many having looked to use the country to provide the best gameplay experiences using the culture that the country provides.

Assassin’s Creed is a game franchise that has used the top travel destination expertly well, whilst Lara Croft has also gone on an adventure in the country, with games such as Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris and Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation.

In addition, the iGaming industry have appeared to follow the lead that video games have taken when it comes down to the Egyptian themes used as the travel destination has been a huge source of inspiration for a number of different jackpot slots such as Egypt’s Book of Mystery, Book of Atem Wowspot and Secrets of Cleopatra.

Aztec region

The Aztec region is one of the most popular travel destinations that has inspired video games in the past, as it helps to provide those that play games using the setting - or those who actually go and visit the countries in the area - with a huge amount of ancient history, as well as provide them with a wealth of education and knowledge that can be rather interesting to know about.

Looking at the Aztec region today, gamers may know it as the Mesoamerica region that comprises modern-day countries such as Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Belize and central to southern Mexico. Of course, many will know this region as Latin America, and an area of the world that has proven to be incredibly popular to visit because of the history and natural beauty it provides.

Video games that have taken inspiration from these tourist destinations include the likes of Assassin’s Creed, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Tomb Raider: Underworld among many others; thus highlighting the varied history the Aztec region has.

Japan

Japan is known throughout the world for its culture and its ability when it comes down to technology, with a large number of computer video games having all emanated from the region. Game developers such as Nintendo, Konami, Sega and Square Enix have all come from the Asian country, with some having used their homeland as inspiration, therefore making the country a top travel destination for many around the world.

Indeed, games such as The Legend of Zelda were based on the experiences that Shigeru Miyamoto (who created the game) had when exploring the Kyoto Prefecture as a child. There are a number of different game series that have taken inspiration from popular travel destinations, including the Dead or Alive series, and the Call of Duty franchise.
