April’s Favorite New NYC Spots to Try Right Now

April’s social calendar doesn’t need to be complicated. Our favorite new spots this month have one thing in common: they’re easy to commit to, whether you’re popping out for a quick pre-dinner drink, leaning into a themed night that actually delivers atmosphere, or booking a meal that feels like a seasonal reset without turning into an all-night production.

La Marchande at The Wall Street Hotel (FiDi)

This is the rare FiDi happy hour that feels genuinely chic and genuinely doable. La Marchande just launched a French-style apéro hour with $5 martinis, wines, and $5 bites, served daily from 5–6 p.m. through May 31. It’s built for early-evening energy—lighter pours, snackable plates, and a “stop in for one” vibe that always turns into “fine, two.” If you want a low-commitment way to make a random Tuesday feel like a plan, this is it.

The Barberry Room at Omni Berkshire Place (Midtown)

Midtown is getting a proper speakeasy-style mood, but in a way that still feels grown-up. Berk’s Bar is being transformed into The Barberry Room through fall 2026 with Prohibition-era design touches, classic New York cocktails, and a few playful details (including rum punch served in a teacup). It’s the kind of spot you can take out-of-towners to without cringing, and it works just as well for a date as it does for a post-work reset. Bonus: it’s a hotel bar that actually feels like it has a point of view.

U Omakase (Greenpoint)

If your April goal is “eat something seasonal that feels special,” book this. U Omakase rolled out a new spring menu from Chef-Owner Luis Durand built as a 12-course experience guided by what’s best each week. Expect peak spring ingredients (think sweet peas, fennel, sumo mandarins) and dishes that are as precise as they are visually satisfying. It’s a clean, bright counterbalance to heavy winter dining—without feeling like you’re eating a salad for fun.

Kawaii Cafe (West Village)

A new West Village coffee shop is making modern dating drama part of the order—and it somehow works. Kawaii Cafe just opened at 117 Christopher Street, and the entire drink menu is named after today’s relationship language: Situationship, Ghosted, Love Bombing, Red Flag, Green Flag. The concept comes from founder Kim Le’s years running a private nail studio, where clients’ dating stories kept circling the same phrases—so she turned them into a playful, instantly shareable menu. The coffee is the real closer: Vietnamese beans imported directly from Vietnam (higher caffeine than standard espresso), condensed milk favorites, and a New Orleans-style chicory option that makes it worth a repeat visit.
