Reducing Stress When Moving Home

June 16, 2021 by Jeremy Lindy

Moving house is a notoriously stressful, time consuming and even physically draining process. So, if you’re planning a move, it’s not all too surprising that you may be looking for a few simple ways to reduce the stress associated with the entire process. Here are some suggestions that can help!

Make Sure You’ve Found the Right Property

When a process gets stressful, people tend to rush it. You see this a lot when people are moving from one place to another. They’ll get stressed when they’re househunting and settle on a convenient option to speed up the stages. But when your home is the most expensive investment you’re likely to make in your life - whether you’re buying or renting - you should really take your time and put plenty of thought into what you’re choosing. Choosing the right home the first time around can reduce the number of times you move in the near future. It can also lead to a happier day to day existence, as you’ll genuinely love the property you’re spending time in. To ensure that the property you choose is the one that is right for you, you need to ask yourself a few questions throughout the viewing and househunting process. Where do you want to live? Do you need to be close to transport options? Schools? Amenities? Public transport links? Do you need parking? How many rooms do you need? How many bathrooms? Do you need a garden? Do you need a garage? This sounds draining, but it will help you to whittle down your options and secure something that meets all of your needs and preferences.

Focus on Your Wellbeing

Once you’ve found a property, you need to lay a big focus on your wellbeing at all times. It’s easy to get caught up in the move and to begin to neglect yourself and your self care routine. At all times, make sure to stop, relax and destress if you find that things are getting a bit much. You may want to practice some mindfulness or meditation. You could make CBD at home. You can take an evening off to sit back and relax. If things get too much, you can also reach out to extra support, such as doctors, therapists, support groups, helplines and more.

Use Professional Services

If you try to do the whole move alone, you’re going to struggle. There are countless professional services out there specially designed to help you with the home moving process. Some good examples include:

  • Estate Agents - these professionals will help you to find the property of your dreams. They will scope out options, conduct viewings and put in offers on your behalf. If you’re buying, they can also help with legal aspects of the move and associated paperwork.

  • Removal Companies - shifting appliances, furniture and other large items isn’t easy work. Use a professional removal company who will, quite literally, be able to lift the weight from your shoulders.

  • Painters and Decorators - most homes require a fresh lick of paint when you move in. This can be time consuming and you might not get the best finish yourself. Instead, hire professional painters and decorators to help.

These steps are straightforward, but they will make all the difference. Hopefully, each will come in useful for your next move!
