Planning a Business Trip to Indiana? Here's How to Prepare

September 28, 2020 by Jeremy Lindy

Trips can be a challenging yet fun experience. There’s so much to prepare for, and so many things to think about. When it comes to business journeys, there are a few extra things to consider. Add to that a location never before visited, and things can get serious! Let’s take a look at what people need to do when going to Indiana for work.

Planes and Trains

Sometimes people are allowed to go business class, and this improves the whole experience. According to BitLux travel in Indianapolis many people upscale their plane flights for business or pleasure. When people use private jet charters they seek a better service and a way of avoiding long queues at the airport. Many desire a better concierge and accommodation experience as well.

Those who have to move around by other means can consider using a train. The national network goes by the name of Amtrak. If a person’s company has provided an upgraded ticket, they can experience such things as a sleeping compartment for overnight journeys, and food for the journey.

There are connections between Indiana and Chicago, but tickets are expensive. The South Shoreline between Chicago and northern Indiana is a popular route. The fare system is zone-based.

Consider Buses

Bus connections are to be found between major cities and towns throughout America. It’s important to check the connections in advance. This is to ensure weary business travelers won’t need to rent a car to get to the exact location they need.

Create an Itinerary

When planning the trip, check the timings. If a person needs to switch planes on the route they must allow enough time for the transition. Also, think about the airport. If someone arrives by plane but is not picked up by a colleague, they may need to rent a car for the final part of the journey. It will be cheaper to sort this in advance with a local car company than to pay the higher prices at the airport on arrival.

Also, think about the venue/s and how long the meetings/conference will take. Research local transportation in the area of accommodation.

If someone is not staying with work colleagues, they can book places in inns, holiday rentals, or hotels. There are hotels located by the airport, and downtown too. Interestingly, some venues are called a ‘hotel and conference center’. This can make things very practical if people don’t need to leave the building for work or accommodation.

Let family and friends back home have the itinerary information, and supply a phone number for emergencies.

Write a Packing List

This will involve all the usual items like prescription medication and a passport.

Visa issues will depend on the country of origin. People coming from the United Kingdom need ESTA to enter America. It’s not technically a visa, but it’s a document allowing British nationals to journey for up to three months in the USA.

When it comes to medical insurance, America is one of the most expensive globally. Make sure your company has provided this, or take out a policy yourself.

Pack Clothes for the Climate

There is quite high humidity in Indiana. Precipitation is a meteorological term for the rain, snow, and ice, etc. The precipitation levels generally stay the same all year round in Indiana. The south is usually warmer than the north.

The coldest month of the year will be January when temperatures will be in the mid-30s. At night it will go down to around 17/18 degrees. The south experiences less snow than the north.

Back-Up the Technical Equipment

There are two different types of power plugs and sockets used in the USA, so check the right ones that are brought with you!

When it’s a business trip, it is essential to have guaranteed access to everything. If data is stored on a laptop, bring a backup on an external drive or memory stick. If a presentation has been created, why not store it in the cloud? Then it can still be accessed, even if your laptop breaks or is sent to China by mistake!

If an internet connection will need to be purchased for the work functions, there are at least six providers in Indiana. The top three are AT&T, Xfinity, and Spectrum.

When it all comes together, it can be both exhilarating and tiring. There is the buzz from meeting old friends and new, and input into the business. On the other side of the coin, the long journeys and changed clock times can take their toll. When business luxuries are included, however, the experience can become far more pleasurable.
