My Roof Leaks. Do I Need To Have It Replaced Completely

May 19, 2021 by Jeremy Lindy

My Roof Leaks, Do I Need To Have It Replaced Completely?

Your roof will not last forever. If your Portland roofing system is compromised and you begin to notice a leak, then you have three options: Ignore the leak, have it repaired, or have your roof totally replaced.

It can be tempting to ignore a leak and hope that it will eventually go away, but often it is more advantageous to get it fixed or hire a seasoned Portland roofing professional to complete your next roof replacement.

It is far too common for homeowners to wait to replace their leaky roof once the problem has become too big to ignore. However, making small repairs throughout the life of your roof will save you more money compared to making big repairs or replacing the roof altogether.

The roof is one of the most important parts of the house, so it is necessary that you be aware of why you are in need of a roof replacement and your options for successfully repairing or replacing your roof.

Reasons To Replace Your Roof

Most individuals will put it off their Portland roof replacements as long as possible due to the hassles associated with the work and expenses. Expanding the life expectancy of your roofing system with routine maintenance is a great way to avoid these hassles, but roofs have to be replaced eventually.

If you answer yes to any of the following questions, you may need to speak with a roofing professional in the Portland area about repairing and replacing your roof:

  • Has your roof been leaking?

  • Have you noticed any issues with your roof, like missing or curled shingles?

  • Is your roof older than ten years?

  • Has your area been hit by severe weather conditions lately like strong winds or hailstorms?

One of the best ways to expand the life of your roof is to fix small leaks as they appear. Ignored leaks can weaken your roof system and could cause you to replace the entire roof. Consult with a professional roofing company in the Portland area for an inspection and fix issues before they become a costly problem.

The following reasons can give you more insight on when it may be necessary to replace your roof:

Roof’s Age

Some roofs have lifespans that are more limited than others. Once your roof has reached the end of its life, it will need to be replaced. Find out how and when your current roof was installed, especially if installed over the previous roof because roofs over a certain age, depending on the materials, will need to be replaced. Some signs of an aging roof you can look for are:

  • The condition of your shingles

    • Are they curling or buckling?

    • Are they bald or blistering?

    • Are some of your shingles missing

  • Roof sagging and uneven

  • Finding roof granules in your gutters

  • Moss, algae, and lichen damage

Excess water increases your chances of mold growth. Water that leaks into walls, insulation, and ceiling and is left unattended could lead to mold. Mold in your home can make you sick, and extended exposure can irritate your eyes, skin, nose, throat, and lungs and lead to other health problems for you, your family, and your pets.

Portland Roof Replacement

A safe roof is integral for a complete home. Working with adept roofing professionals in Portland that are committed to providing quality roof replacement services can help you trust that you are getting the job done correctly.
