Important Things to Know When Embarking for an Overseas Sailing Trip

December 01, 2020 by Jeremy Lindy

Sailing is one of the best adventures you could embark on and that’s especially true if you’re doing an overseas trip. However, before you decide to make this step, there are some very important things you need to take care of. Don't overlook something and ruin your trip.

These are some of the things you need to take into consideration while making your traveling plan.

Get All Your Papers in Check

Traveling overseas means you’ll have to cross some borders and that requires having all your paperwork settled. Passport is the main document to prove your identity when having an international trip. In the case your voyage is going to last several months or a year, you need to make sure that this document won’t expire while you’re abroad. So, check the dates and ensure you avoid this type of problem.

Visa is also required if you want to enter certain countries. While you make plans about which places you want to visit, go to the website of their embassies in your country and see what they demand when it comes to paperwork. Another important document to bring with you on the trip includes insurance that will cover any possible accidents happening while sailing. Also, don’t forget that boat registration needs to be active during the whole trip.

Shipping Your Boat to a Certain Location

If your envisioned starting point is far away from the place where your boat is located now, you can hire the services of a shipping company. As stated by the professionals on www.crosschartering.com, you can have your vessel transported anywhere you want securely and at a reasonable price. There are experienced teams that can provide you with the best custom-designed yacht transport plan to fit any scenario or requirements.

The shipping companies of this kind will make it possible to enjoy sailing in any part of the world. And if you don’t have the time to take your boat to that place on your own, you can simply fly there and have your yacht waiting for you there. There are the experienced professionals who know more about luxury charter yachts available and the best locations to visit. You can also take help there.

Vaccines

Depending on the place you’re visiting, you might need to protect yourself and get vaccine shots. Go and consult with your doctor. They will be able to inform you about the possible health issues you might face while in a certain location and how to protect yourself in the best possible manner. Usually, when traveling to tropical areas, vaccination is required.

The first aid kit is always a must when traveling via sea. As the old saying goes – Better safe than sorry. So, make sure you have all you need in case of an emergency. For a longer trip, don’t forget to pack all the medication you might need.

These are some of the biggest things you must put on your To-Do list while making plans for overseas boat travel. Make sure all your papers are in order and ensure you are well aware of the possible health hazards while traveling and in the places, you plan to visit. Simply out, go prepared!
