Home Brewed Coffee: How to Make the Perfect Cup

November 05, 2020 by Jeremy Lindy

The 2020 pandemic has changed a lot in our day to day lives. Most of us don’t like to complain about the small changes - after all, there are some major tragedies and struggles going on right now. But that’s not to say smaller consequences of coronavirus, Covid-19 and the restrictions that have been put into place aren’t important to you. One change many of us have experienced is that we can’t get a good cup of coffee anymore. Many of us are used to picking up a hot cup of freshly brewed coffee from coffee stores on our way to work, on our lunch break, on the way home, out with friends or more. The good news is that good coffee at home is possible. You just need the right equipment and the right ingredients. The steps below should help get your coffee journey started in the right direction.

Finding a Great Coffee Machine

The easiest way to get great coffee is to invest in a quality coffee machine. Whether that’s Espresso Machines or any other machine, just make sure to look for good reviews and recommendations. You can easily find out what others have thought of the machine online - even during the pandemic. A coffee machine can make such a better cup than simply using hot water from the kettle and some granules. There are different options on the market to suit different budgets, but generally speaking, the better the machine is, the more your cup of coffee will be like those in cafes and other establishments.

Choosing the Right Beans

Once you have your machine, it’s time to find some quality coffee beans to make the best cup to suit your tastes. There are three types of beans that are specially cultivated for coffee drinks. These are:

  • Coffea Arabica (better know as Arabica coffee)

  • Coffea Canephora (known as Robusta coffee)

  • Coffea liberica Bull (known as Liberian coffee)

Each of these types of coffee has its own unique taste. You’ll have to and you’ll find that each has distinct qualities and tastes. Give each a try to find what you like.

Choosing Fair Trade

It’s a good idea to choose fair trade coffee supplies whenever possible. Few people really know where their coffee comes from and, unfortunately, there is a lot of exploitation within certain parts of the industry. Sure, buying fair trade will make your coffee a little more expensive. However, this is because all workers are being paid fairly. This reduces exploitation and makes for a fairer brew! This is an ethical decision to make and more than worth the investment.

Organic Coffee

If you want your coffee beans to have been grown without the use of pesticides and fertilisers, choosing organic beans may be beneficial to you. They can prove better for your health and wellbeing than standard beans,

As you can see, you have to put some thought, effort and investment into getting a great cup of coffee at home. But, at the end of the day, it’s worth it!
