Here Are Some Environment-Friendly Alternatives To Driving Your Car To Work

June 14, 2021 by Jeremy Lindy

More often than not, people will tell you that they use their car as the main means of transportation to work. Even though this may be convenient at a first glance, driving to work every day is extremely bad for the environment. Ultimately, there are many alternatives to driving to work that offer additional benefits such as light exercise, that are much better for the environment. They are discussed down below.

Public Transportation

Although some components of public transportation systems aren’t the most environmentally friendly alternatives, they can still contribute to the solution to this problem. For example, if fifty people commute to work in a single bus as opposed to driving fifty cars, the harmful effect is reduced fifty times! And if they continue to do so every day, the results are astounding. This beneficial impact on the environment will just keep increasing if people commute to work using the metro or other vehicles of the public transportation system that doesn’t use gas. The collective effect of using public transport to get to work daily is one of the environment-friendly alternatives that are worth mentioning, and one of the easiest ones to implement in our daily lives. Some countries have gone as far as reducing taxes for people who either don’t own a car or have a hybrid.

Walking

Another very popular alternative to driving to work is simply walking. More often than not, people don’t need to drive to work because it can take them half an hour or less to get to their workplace on foot. Most opt not to walk to work because they think they won’t have enough time to reach it before working hours start. Another common excuse is that people think they need to get up much earlier to get there in time, and most are unwilling to compromise. Walking to work doesn’t have to include any of these delusions. More often than not, people spent the exact amount of time stuck in traffic, while in the meantime they could have reached their workplace in the same amount of time if they chose to walk to it. Walking is also highly beneficial to overall health, especially when it comes down to cardiovascular health. This is all the more reason to consider it, and it’s effectively non-threatening to the environment.

Bikes

The transition from driving to work to walking instead is usually far-fetched, and it isn’t usually a productive process, as many people simply opt for an easy way out. This is exactly the place where biking to work comes in, as a golden middle point between driving to work and walking to work. Biking is, as well as walking, extremely beneficial for the environment since it doesn’t emit any harmful gases. However, even though most people choose to bike to work, some still consider biking too slow of a process. This is exactly why the creators of Electric Bike Paradise note that people opt for electric alternatives - since they are much faster. In addition to this, electric bikes might be a better option because they generally can go longer distances in a shorter period. Ultimately, they are also a valid alternative to using a car to get to work every day, since they fall under environmentally-friendly vehicles.

Skates and Rollerblades

Other environment-friendly alternatives to driving cars to work, similarly to biking are the ever-popular skateboards and rollerblades. Ask anyone who lives in busy cities such as New York city how they get around the town, and even go to work, a quarter of them will tell you that they either use rollerblades or skateboards. Even though these two ways of commuting may not seem very professional at a first glance, there is no reason why someone shouldn’t pursue them unless their city doesn’t have proper lanes where people can skate and rollerblade. In addition to this, skateboards and rollerblades take up a little storage space and can be tucked under your arm once you’re done. Some backpacks even come with special slots for either skateboards or rollerblades. Last but not least, this is a very environmentally friendly alternative to driving to work every day, and not to mention it offers light exercise every day.

Driving to work every day is extremely bad for the environment because it emits so many harmful gases into the atmosphere. With many alternative ways to commute, a golden middle would be to opt for bikes, electric bikes perhaps as they offer a fast means to get to work faster without polluting the world.
