Essential Accessories for Your New RV

May 08, 2023 by Jeremy Lindy

After spending countless weeks researching the perfect RV or motorhome for your needs, you might have finally proceeded with your purchase and are ready to hit the road. However, purchasing an RV is just the first step to the nomadic lifestyle or more comfortable camping vacations. You must also buy tools, equipment, and appliances to enhance your travel comfort. If you’re getting ready to hit the road, consider adding the following must-have accessories to your shopping list.

Security

One of the first things you should consider adding to your new motorhome after you purchase it are items that increase its security and make it as secure as possible. Firstly, you should browse a range of Motorhome Alarm Systems to see which one is most suitable for your vehicle, as these will alert you if anyone is trying to gain unauthorised access to the vehicle.

A Solar Power Generator

While many people make do with gas generators and camping ground power supplies, solar power generators for RV owners might be a cleaner, quieter, and easier option. Solar power generators operate with a portable power station and solar panel and harness their energy from the sun.

Rather than having to fuel up a dirty and loud gas generator, you can park somewhere, set up your solar panels, and let them get to work producing all the energy your RV needs to power your electronics and appliances.

Levelers

You never expect a road surface to be flat when you’re driving on it, but it’s easy to assume that any camping ground or rest area you park in will be. However, that’s rarely the case. While it might not seem important for you to have an entirely level RV, it can be. Alongside being uncomfortable sleeping at an unusual angle, you can risk damage to any propane fridges you have. Propane or absorption fridges contain ammonia, which can’t circulate when it’s not level. This can be a fire hazard that needs your attention.

Fortunately, you can solve the issue of an unlevel RV with leveler blocks. Once you park your RV, use its pre-installed bubble level to know how many leveler blocks you need to place underneath your stabilizing jack. You can then enjoy a comfortable night’s sleep and peace of mind knowing your propane fridge isn’t being damaged.

Camping Chairs

Most RVs come kitted out with comfortable and luxurious chairs, but you won’t want to spend all your time inside, especially when you’re parked somewhere with beautiful weather and spectacular views.

Maximize your camping experience by investing in camping chairs. A basic canvas chair is an excellent beginner option, but you can also purchase padded chairs with cup holders when you want to feel comfortable for extended periods.

An RV Mattress

While your RV likely already came with a mattress, it’s not always going to be the best one for your unique needs. Even brand-new RV mattresses are rarely of the same quality as the mattresses you buy for beds in your home.

Rather than risk a poor night’s sleep, consider upgrading your RV mattress before you set off on your next adventure. Many companies can create custom RV mattresses to suit the bed size and your ergonomic requirements.

Handheld Vacuum

RVs require far less cleaning than your average home, but that doesn’t mean they don’t get dirty. Even with a no-shoes policy, you might find dirt, crumbs, and general debris scattered across your floors.

While simple brooms can do an adequate job, they aren’t as effective as vacuums. Consider purchasing a handheld vacuum that’s small enough for the space constraints of an RV but powerful enough to take care of dirt and debris. Handheld vacuums are battery-powered, which means you can quickly and efficiently take care of your RV chores without having to seek out a power supply.

A Dehumidifier

Humidity isn’t just a problem for homeowners. It can also be frequently experienced by RV owners, especially those visiting humid cities like New Orleans in Louisiana and Orlando, Florida. Fortunately, you don’t have to wait until humidity starts causing mold in your RV before taking action.

Whether your windows are fogging up or you’ve experienced a water leak, you can purchase an RV-compatible dehumidifier and let it get to work. You can also use other RV moisture control products like moisture absorbers and install double-pane windows.

Tire Covers

RV owners might spend a great deal of time on the road, but they might also park at campgrounds and other desirable rest stops for long periods. UV rays can be damaging to tires, requiring you to replace them long before they’ve even worn out.

However, you might be able to prevent that from being a problem during long-term stays by investing in tire covers. Most tire covers on the market feature water-resistant fabric with non-scratch backing to protect your wheels. Simply slide them over the top and secure the bottom flap, and you might save yourself a significant sum of money.

Water Filter

Most tap water is safe to drink, and you’re unlikely to encounter any problems when filling your freshwater tanks for your next RV trip. In saying that, there’s nothing wrong with taking extra precautions by installing a water filter in your RV. Water filters filter out chemicals, viruses, and bacteria that might cause a range of symptoms, like stomach pain, diarrhea, and vomiting.

Purchasing your RV is an excellent first step to a more comfortable and luxurious camping experience. However, buying these accessories above might enhance it beyond what you might have expected.
