6 Things You Must Experience When Visiting New York

September 23, 2020 by Jeremy Lindy

New York is a city in North America, best known for its towering Statue of Liberty, and the iconic Empire State Building. New York is a city rich with history and is one that goes back hundreds of years to the days of Dutch colonial settlers, back when its name was New Amsterdam. New York, a city abundant with culture and history, is a diverse and unique city, and one that is loved and dreamed of all over the world.

To truly see everything in New York and appreciate it, you will need to visit at least three or four times. If you are only visiting once, however, you will only want to see the main attractions, and that is what this page will tell you. This page will tell you six things you absolutely must experience when visiting New York.

With the current global pandemic still in full effect, be sure to check with your government whether or not it is safe for you to fly to New York, and check if the American government is allowing international tourists. Here are six things you must experience when visiting New York.

Accommodation

When visiting New York, rather than staying in a plush hotel or a bed-and-breakfast, why not get the full ‘New York experience’ by renting your own private accommodation. Rental accommodation is available to international travellers in abundance. You can rent studios, one-bedroom apartments, or even penthouses, often for the same price as you would a hotel for the night (or less).

Renting an apartment or studio in New York will give you the ability to truly immerse yourself in the New Yorker lifestyle, get familiar and personal with neighbourhoods and the people who live in them, and have a lot of fun. You can also save money, as according to the travel specialists from getyourstay.com, when booking private accommodation internationally, you could be entitled to claim cashback. Saving money and living like a New Yorker… What more could someone ask for?

Museums

New York is well known for its museum, with the most famous being the Met. New York’s museums offer you an abundance of things to see and a wide array of activities. New York is well known for its museums, and they are quite often free-to-enter. If you are interested in an educational experience while in New York, then visiting its many museums could definitely be the activity for you. The museums in New York offer thousands of artifacts, so many that you could never see them all in a simple visit, nor five visits! You should definitely check out the Met next time you take a trip to NYC.

Times Square

Times Square is known all around the world for its bright neon lights and its huge, towering billboards. Times Square is in central New York and is very close to Broadway, the theatrical heart of New York. While at Times Square, visit Broadway and try and catch a show. Times Square is one of the most oft-visited tourist destinations in the world, and rightfully so because it is phenomenal and rich with history. It was once the contested territory of Native Americans and settlers; then it was the contested territory of gangs throughout New York in the 18th and 19th century – now it is contested territory between brands and advertising agencies! Any trip to New York is not complete without a visit to the world-renowned Times Square. Make sure you visit it. It is most impressive in the evening when it is completely lit up.

NY Skyline

After climbing, or taking the steps, to the 70th floor of the Rockefeller building, or the ‘Top of the Rock’ as it is known to locals, you will be presented with an unrivaled view of the NYC skyline. The skyline is world-famous and is a view that cannot be matched by any city throughout the world.

Central Park

Central Park is a beautiful park located in the heart of dense downtown New York. Central Park offers a wide array of activities, from fishing to art installations, and should be visited by anyone on their first trip to NYC.

Statue of Liberty

Could any list be complete without mentioning the illustrious, the renowned, the magnificent Statue of Liberty? The Statue of Liberty is known all around the world, and some may say it is the very heart of New York and everything that the city stands for.

Now, with the help of this page, you know six things you absolutely must experience and things you must see when visiting New York. New York is a city that offers you everything you could ever want in a city, and somewhere you must visit at least once in your lifetime.
