6 Good Reasons Why Everyone Should Try Aerial Yoga

February 21, 2021 by Jeremy Lindy

Aerial Yoga is one single practice that different people refer to with other names like aerial fitness and even aerial. The word aerial is expected and appropriate as it is an airborne fitness method. When you are doing aerial Yoga, you carry out movements as you are suspended from the ceiling in a silk hammock. The ceiling suspension is supposed to support your body's weight. The airborne actions stand in contrast to the stretching practiced by traditional Yoga while being on a floor mat. The aerial variant of Yoga mixes elements from a wide variety of new-age wellbeing practices that include:

  • Pilates

  • Yoga

  • Dance

  • Gymnastics

  • Acrobatics

Therefore, it is little wonder that most aerial yoga experts see aerial fitness or aerial hammock to be a more accurate term to refer to the practice. Each instructor brings with him a unique mix that emphasizes one or more elements differently. The typical reason behind such a lack of uniformity in the procedure is the coach's education and background as far as this particular fitness activity is concerned. Moreover, aerial yoga can be taught by taking up yoga teacher training in Bali. Getting a 200-hour certificate is already enough for you to be a yoga practitioner.

There are a wide variety of reasons why you should try out aerial Yoga. It is due to its myriad benefits that the practice is surging and gaining mainstream popularity. This article highlights the six primary reasons which make aerial Yoga such a great hit with the masses:

1. All The Flipping Is Fun And Thrilling

Almost all of us would be delighted if we could play the part of an acrobat for a few hours. With aerial yoga and pole dancing aids, like the ones you will find if you click here, you will be able to pull off gymnastic moves that you would not have otherwise even thought of. But with the aid of the suspended piece of silk, you can try out all those fun moves which make the classes all the more enjoyable. Therefore, it is little wonder that most people would not let go of aerial Yoga once they have had a taste of the practice's feel. After all, it is only natural that enjoyable workouts translate to increased frequency and regularity of training.

2. You Don't Need Specialized Skills.

The study test conducted by the ACE should serve as the prime example, which randomly selected sixteen women aged 18 to 45. The test findings proved that an aerial workout was something that anyone is capable of doing. You don't need any special skills and still enjoy the practice. Newbies are very much welcome to the aerial yoga world, and this relevant guide should help. Many yoga studios have special classes devoted to aerial yoga first-timers. Others offer foundational courses for beginners, after which you will be able to proceed to more advanced aerial yoga classes.

Learning the art is still important to ensure that you are practicing aerial yoga safely and effectively, even as a beginner. Effective kundalini yoga training starts by helping you build a strong foundation in breath control and posture, which are essential for performing more complex aerial yoga poses. As you progress, these foundational techniques will enhance your flexibility, strength, and focus, allowing you to fully enjoy the benefits of aerial yoga.

3. It Is One Of The Best Workouts For Your Ab

One great benefit of an aerial workout is that the body's point of stability is challenged, which engages your core body without you even having to try to achieve the same. This makes aerial Yoga simply one of the best and effective ab workouts around. Remember the ACE study we referred to at the beginning of this article. Still, the study also found that the test subjects trimmed an inch. All test subjects also felt as if their core strength had improved in the duration of the study.

4. It Becomes Relatively Easy To Be Proficient In Yoga Mat Poses

Suppose your yoga forearm or headstands pose too much of a challenge to you. In that case, aerial Yoga is one fun way to master yoga intricacies. With this yoga format, the silk that wraps and supports your body lets you get into otherwise difficult positions like inversions. It serves to give you a better idea of how such poses need to be executed. Doing a few aerial Yoga sessions is sure to make you perform better at more traditional yoga forms.

5. Aerial Yoga Serves As A Cardio Workout Too

The ACE study's findings referred to in this article would suggest that aerial Yoga helps to firm up your entire body. The researchers observed that the test subjects experienced a boost in muscle mass and a reduction in fat throughout the body. It helps to build strength and make muscles more defined, especially your arms and shoulders. But the real surprise to the scientists was the significant cardio effects of aerial Yoga in addition to strength building. The cardio results of aerial Yoga were comparable to intensive cardio exercises like swimming or cycling. The calorie burn, for its part, was on similar levels to that of power walking.

6. It's A Zero-Impact Form Of Exercise

It is not necessary for you to have knee problems to benefit from a low or even better zero-impact exercise. Aerial Yoga forms the perfect opportunity to benefit from such a form of physical activity.

Lastly, it is necessary to remind you that the mid-air movements of aerial Yoga do not make floor workouts redundant. A large portion of aerial yoga exercises teaches you the right way to use both the aerial equipment and the ground floor. Keep on staying fit while having fun!
