Patrón the high premium tequila has recently launched the Gran Patrón Smoky giving consumers a new way to drink the fan favorite tequila.
This is one of the first tequilas of its kind to include a smoking technique in its production process, honoring traditional production methods dating back hundreds of years.
Bottled at 101 proof and a suggested retail price of $199, Gran Patrón Smoky will be available in limited supply in thirteen select U.S. markets (with broader expansion in 2019).
To create the distinctively smoky aroma and taste of this extraordinary tequila, the heart of the agave plant, the piña, is roasted in underground stone pits at the Patrón Hacienda distillery esulting in a smooth and sweet taste with smoked agave, citrus and fruity notes with a long, peppery finish.
“With Gran Patrón Smoky we’ve taken that commitment one step further by exploring the ancient method of roasting the agaves in small underground pits, resulting in a balanced yet complex smoky flavour,” said Lee Applbaum, Global chief marketing officer at Patrón.

Smoky Tamarind Margarita
2 oz. Gran Patrón Smoky
.75 oz. Tamarind Purée (perfect puree)
.75 oz. Cinnamon Agave Syrup
25 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
1 dash Angostura Bitters
METHOD: Combine all ingredients in a shaker, fill with ice. Shake to chill and dilute.
Strain into a rocks glass rimmed with tajin and filled with fresh ice.
Garnish with a lime wedge.
