Marvel's 1 Hotel BK Bridge Gains Intl. Recognition at 2018 AHEAD Awards

Sleeper Media has announced that 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge by Marvel Architects, in partnership with Starwood Capital, Toll Brothers, INC Architecture & Design, and Michael van Valkenburgh Associates, has won third place at this year’s Global AHEAD Awards which took place in New York on Monday January 28. The project won first place in the Urban Hotel NewBuild category at the AHEAD Americas competition back in November, and came in third place overall at the finale from over 1,600 entries, representing more than 600 projects in 87 countries. It was the only project in Brooklyn, New York to be shortlisted for 112 nominations across 15 categories.

"We designed the hotel in a way that allows visitors to be part of the park and experience the harbor-front as much as possible,” said Jonathan Marvel, Co-Founding Principal at Marvel Architects.

1 Hotel defines the northern extent of the Brooklyn Pierhouse development, just south of the Brooklyn Bridge. The program includes 195 hotel rooms, three dining venues, a 17,000 SF event space, a 5,000 SF spa, a rooftop pool and bar, a 300-car parking garage, and two retail spaces. The 11-floor concrete, glass, and steel new-build serves as an improved link between the industrial Furman Street and the open space of the Brooklyn Bridge Park. Hotel guests, apartment owners and pedestrians alike can enjoy all that the park and Pier 1 in Brooklyn have to offer.

“When we launched these ‘Awards for Hospitality Experience And Design’, our aim was to create a new platform to celebrate not just design for design’s sake,” said Matt Turner, Editor-in-Chief, Sleeper Media.

The hotel, paired with adjacent residential building Pierhouse, has also won the AIA Brooklyn-Queens Design Merit Award, ULI Award for Excellence in Hotel Development, the Architizer A+ Award for Hospitality for Hotels and Resorts, Interior Design Magazine Best of Year Award for U.S. Boutique Hotel, Building Brooklyn Awards: National Grid Award for Energy Efficiency, AIA New York State Design Award and the IESNYC Lumen Award of Merit.
