NYC's Three Casino Licenses: What Changes Next Door

New York City now has three licensed casino projects, two in Queens and one in the Bronx. For anyone who owns, rents or is shopping for a home nearby, that is a planning story as much as a gaming one. Hotels, event halls, parks and traffic come with each license. So do questions about what happens to the blocks around them.

The money behind these projects rests heavily on table games, and baccarat leads that list in the biggest casino markets. The game is promoted worldwide in many languages, such as a Thai-language เว็บบาคาร่า ranking meant only for adults where online casino play is legal. Online gambling is prohibited in Thailand, and New York has not legalized online casino games either. This piece stays with the physical projects and the neighborhoods around them.

What Did New York Actually Approve?

On December 1, 2025, the state's Gaming Facility Location Board voted unanimously to advance three bids. They were Hard Rock Metropolitan Park, Resorts World New York City and Bally's Bronx. The State Gaming Commission gave final approval to all three on December 15, 2025.

The Board weighted economic activity at 70% of its scoring. Local siting, workforce plans and diversity commitments counted for 10% each. State consultants expect nearly $1 billion in new gaming tax revenue in 2036. They put the 2027 to 2036 total at about $7 billion.

Licensing fees add another $1.5 billion, or $500 million per operator. The Board also projects about $5.9 billion in property, sales and hotel taxes over 10 years. Roughly $10.7 million a year is set aside for problem gambling programs.

Where Are the Three Projects Being Built?

Each site has a different neighborhood story, and different timing:

  1. Resorts World New York City, South Ozone Park, Queens. The existing slots venue at Aqueduct opened live table games on April 28, 2026. Reporting at launch counted more than 200 live-dealer games and over 2,500 slot machines. A $5.5 billion expansion is planned to run toward 2030.
  2. Hard Rock Metropolitan Park, Willets Point, Queens. This $8.1 billion plan covers about 50 acres beside Citi Field. Backers promise about 25 acres of new public park space and a 2030 target.
  3. Bally's Bronx, Ferry Point. This $4 billion project sits on the Ferry Point golf course site near the Whitestone Bridge. It includes a 500-room hotel and a 2,000-seat event center, with $765 million pledged in local benefits.

Queens is already absorbing big residential projects. In Long Island City, The Orchard is bringing 824 rental homes to the borough. In the Bronx, new rentals such as The Arabella show how much new supply is arriving before any casino opens.

Will a Casino Raise or Lower Nearby Home Values?

The honest answer is that research does not point one way. Studies of single markets have found both gains and losses near casinos. Results depend heavily on density, traffic and how many casinos already compete in the region.

A Richmond Fed economic brief reviewed the wider evidence in 2022. It found job gains concentrated in lower-density areas without nearby casinos. It also found "little evidence" that casinos boost state taxes. Where a region is already saturated, new casinos mostly take revenue from existing ones.

That matters for New York City. The metro area already has casinos in Yonkers, Atlantic City and Connecticut. Dense neighborhoods may feel construction, traffic and parking pressure more than any job windfall. The amenities promised alongside the gaming floor may matter more to nearby homeowners than the casino itself.

Why Does Baccarat Matter to the Business Case?

High-end casinos are built around a small number of large bets. Baccarat attracts many of them, because it is simple and moves quickly at high limits. That is why operators plan private salons, VIP suites and luxury hotel rooms around the tables.

For neighbors, the game shapes the kind of property that gets built. A few points stand out:

  • Premium table play supports larger hotels, restaurants and event spaces.
  • Hotel guests and event crowds bring evening and weekend traffic.
  • Operators compete for affluent visitors, which raises spending on design and amenities.
  • Projects aimed at high-limit play tend to keep long opening hours.

Which Project Opens First, and at What Cost?

Resorts World NYC Queens $5.5 billion Table games open since April 2026
Metropolitan Park Queens $8.1 billion Targeting 2030
Bally's Bronx Bronx $4 billion Targeting 2030

What Should Buyers and Renters Check Before Moving Nearby?

A casino license is a long-term change to a neighborhood. Before signing a lease or contract within walking distance, check these points:

  • Construction schedules and staging areas published by the operator or city agencies.
  • Transit changes, especially around Mets-Willets Point and Aqueduct Racetrack stations.
  • Parking rules and planned garages on surrounding streets.
  • Promised parks, community funds and local hiring commitments.
  • Community board meeting minutes for the latest disputes and conditions.

A casino is entertainment for adults, never an income plan. If gambling stops being fun for you or someone at home, New York's HOPEline is free and open 24 hours a day. Call 1-877-8-HOPENY or text HOPENY (467369). Callers outside the state can reach 1-800-GAMBLER at any hour.

Reading the Map Before the Doors Open

Three licenses will reshape parts of Queens and the Bronx over the next decade. The projects bring parks, hotels and tax revenue, along with traffic and construction. Buyers and renters gain most by watching the details: schedules, transit plans and the fine print of promised benefits, so the homework is worth doing now.
