Life After College And What You Need To Know About It

December 03, 2019 by Jeremy Lindy

Now that you've completed your degree, you can finally do all the things you planned for when you were in college. But are you truly prepared for what's ahead after graduation?

Surely, completing your college degree is a huge accomplishment. It's an entirely different feeling now that you're free from all the academic demands and projects you needed to do. But does finishing school mean you're already free?

Highly unlikely. Completing your college degree is only the start of a whole different adventure. But how do you prepare for it?

Preparing Yourself for the Rough Days

The days of eating instant noodles and processed food is not yet over. Remember that since you've already graduated, you'll have other expenses to worry about, like bills and meals. You also need to find affordable accommodation, too, if you want to stay afloat.

Remember that since you just graduated, you'll be facing a tough time with your starting salary. Living in a city like London can be costly so you need to be smart about your spending and be frugal as much as possible.

The Truth About Job Hunting

Have you ever noticed what it looks like during the Christmas sale? Did you notice how people act when they see the last shirt on sale? Then, you have some inkling of what job hunting feels after going to college-and it doesn't feel okay.

Imagine waiting in line together with hundreds of applicants applying for the same position with the same degree and with a similar level of experience. It's nerve-wracking, especially if it's your first time. So, you need to ensure that you know how to set yourself apart from everybody else.

Aside from preparing yourself for all the questions the hiring manager will ask you, you also need to prepare for it emotionally. Not everyone gets to land on their dream job. Instead of sulking over it, try to work on your skills and make yourself better.

Getting and keeping a dream job is a skill that you can learn as you grow. Try to consider your strengths and the things you enjoy. Then, equip yourself with the right skills so you'll be more prepared for the next job interview.

You Won't Get Along with Everyone

When you were in college, you might have probably encountered some people who can't even stand the sight of you. Perhaps, you naturally don't get along with one another, or they probably see something in you that makes them feel bad about themselves.

Either way, these people shouldn't matter. Even the most successful people like Bill Gates never was famous when they were starting. So, stop worrying about what other people might think. What matters is how you see yourself and what your plans are for life. Do all the things that you can to pursue it and let them be.

Graduating from college is an incredible feeling. But life after college is an entirely different playing field. You need to be smart about your decisions, especially with finances. But it doesn't mean that you should stop having fun, too. Take a little break and enjoy things a little. In that way, you get to relieve yourself of all the pressures of living the adult life.
