Custom Homes Are Becoming More Popular, And Here's Why

May 17, 2022 by Jeremy Lindy

Real estate market trends can always indicate interesting things that shine a light on people’s behaviors and preferences. Recently, there’s been an uptrend in the number of homeowners purchasing custom homes.

For context, a custom home is a home that’s built specifically for the individual. It involves home construction from scratch, as opposed to going out and buying a house that already exists.

Why is this method of buying a house becoming more popular than ever before? Well, here are some possible reasons:

Better value for money

The average home buyer isn’t going to find the house of their dreams on the market. Usually, sacrifices have to be made. This results in them making more investments into the home to get it closer to their dream house.

Custom homes are the complete opposite. In many cases, they are built by professionals who specialize in a custom design build for every project. They’re built from scratch for the homeowner, so they get a property that matches their dream depiction. It means there’s no need to spend money on a home that still needs work to be carried out on it. As such, it’s better value for money, which appeals to many buyers.

Enhanced convenience

Similarly, custom homes offer more convenience for the buyer. Traditionally, when buying a home, you might have to make improvements when you move in. Often, you do this before moving in. It can put you in a situation where it’s months before everything is finally settled.

If the home is constructed from scratch, the buyer simply moves in when it’s ready. All they have to do is provide furnishings, and they've got a proper home right away. It prevents cases where you stay in an apartment for a few months while you work on renovations. Or, you’re living with builders coming and going every day.

Working with experienced teams makes this process even smoother. High-end projects are often full of details that standard contractors might miss. Many people choose Luxury Custom Home Builders to handle these complex requirements from start to finish. This approach ensures that every part of the house meets specific quality standards. It also helps avoid the common delays that happen when multiple different companies try to coordinate on a single site. Having one point of contact for the whole build keeps the timeline on track.

Originality & freedom

These days, new housing developments are popping up all over the place. Lots of people are checking out this home builder email list to see which company agrees with their vision. What’s more, these developments are usually owned by the same company. As a result, you end up with thousands of new houses that all look identical to one another. There’s no originality there, which can be frustrating for some homeowners.

Custom homes give you as much originality and freedom as you like. You can add features to your home that you might not get when buying an existing one. This can include things like solar panels and other energy-saving additions. People like having the choice to construct a home that meets their own individual requirements.

Actually, that raises another point. Individuals with disabilities will often need specific installations that the average home simply won’t have. They could spend a fortune remodeling a home to make it suitable for them. Instead, buying a custom home and having it built from scratch can give them more freedom to create the perfect home for their special requirements.

We are never going to reach a point where every home that’s bought is custom-made. One of the downsides of custom homes is that you need land to build them on. But, is it possible that we could see a future where housing development plots are sold to individuals? Each plot of land can house a custom home, leading to a whole neighborhood of houses built differently. It’s an interesting idea, and the popularity of custom-built properties is certainly increasing year after year.
