An ocean view in the morning, a proper dinner reservation at night and no flights to organize. That is the appeal of an Atlantic City weekend from New York. The mistake is booking whichever casino hotel has the lowest headline rate and planning everything else afterward.
Choose the kind of weekend first. Beach walks and time outside point toward the Boardwalk. A hotel with dining, a spa and an evening’s entertainment under one roof may make the Marina District a better base. Neither choice requires you to spend the entire trip on a casino floor.
Boardwalk or Marina? Book the location first

For a first visit, decide which matters more: walking out toward the ocean or keeping most of the evening inside your hotel. Compare the cost of the whole stay, including transport, rather than choosing between two room rates as though the locations were interchangeable.
Give the casino its own budget
Keep the money for meals, the room and the journey home separate from anything you decide to gamble. Then check the rules of the game before sitting down. Check the total price before confirming
