6 Interesting Details Folks Who Smoke Cigars Should Know

April 25, 2021 by Jeremy Lindy

The popularity of Cigars is on the rise, despite how many people believe it isn’t. When some tell you they don’t smoke cigars, oftentimes it’s because they haven’t been instructed on what is behind the making and smoking of a cigar. Because they are presented with so many options, it can get confusing.

Today, we’re sharing with you six facts about cigars you should know that are not only interesting but will hopefully help convince others that CIagrs is a harmless, pleasurable, pass time.

It’s time to enhance your smoking experience.

1) Using A Lighter on a Cigar

There are often rumors that circulate claiming that lighting a CIgar with a lighter instead of a match ruins the experience completely. While that may have been true at one time, lighters have become so advanced, that that rumor, or fact, no longer applies.

Of course, having a light for your cigar is the most essential accessory for a cigar smoker. That’s why investing in the highest quality cigar lighters is worth the money. Purchasing a $3.00 lighter from your local convenience store just isn’t going to cut it.

Good quality cigar lighters will usually be handmade and made up of materials like stainless steel, aluminum, and copper. These will also come with special features like windproof flames. On average one of these lights will cost you anywhere from $10 to $100 dollars.

Cigar Smokers who have made smoking an actual sport will want to purchase those on the higher end as they are looking for maximum quality.

2) Cigars Truly Are Natural

In today’s world, it’s hard to believe that anything we buy or consume is natural. However, if you’re shopping for premium cigars it’s no lie. These are handmade mechanisms made out of purely grown tobacco. Meaning, if you’re buying from the right source, you don’t have to worry about added pesticides or chemicals to keep your cigar “fresh.” You can also count on a cigar that will have a taste-free of any added flavor.

Sometimes, cigars will have a slight taste but this is often due to the way and the environment the tobacco was grown in. If your cigar has a strong taste it has probably been victim to mass production and is more similar to a cigarette than an actual cigar.

3) It Takes Over 200 People To Make a Cigar

Have you ever heard of the phrase “it takes a village?” Well, that’s no over-exaggeration when it comes to the natural production of a cigar. It truly does take the effort of hundreds of people to get you that refined taste.

The Journey starts with the planting of the tobacco seed in a greenhouse. Where they grow large enough to be transferred into their designated fields. Once they’re grown, they are harvested and left to dry indoors.

Next is the factory where the tobacco is fermented and aged perfectly. The Tobacco even goes through a type of sugaring where its innermost vein is removed. Then of course we have the rolling and the actual preparation of the cigar, and then eventually the sorting, and packaging.

It takes not only hundreds of people but multiple years for you to get the cigar your hold in your hand.

4) Cigars Have a Dynamic Anatomy

Just like humans, Cigars have proper and dynamic anatomy that needs to be followed in order for them to be of top-tier quality. The parts of cigar include:

  • The wrapper

    • The outer layer of the cigar that we actually see made out of a perfectly fermented leaf

  • Binder

    • Underneath the top layer and works to home the filler in place

  • Filler

    • Where the tobacco is located, placed in a way that promotes a long-lasting burn

Everything included in a cigar needs to be placed in order for it to function properly and taste right. High-quality cigars are often made by professionals who have worked in the industry for decades.

5) Price Doesn’t Always Guarantee Quality

For most things we purchase, the higher the price the better the quality. However, with cigars, this isn’t always true. What makes a good Cigar is how its manufacturers, and sometimes even the most high-quality companies produce cigars that aren’t top tier. That’s because not all Tobacco grows equally, some bundles will be better than others.

Therefore sometimes a lesser brand can have cigars produced that are just as good, if not better than a high-end brand. It also comes down to your personal preference.

6) What’s The Difference Between a Cuban Cigar & A Regular One

A lot of people often ask the question, ‘Why is a Cuban Cigar considered the best?” The truth is, a Cuban Cigar is just defined by where the Tobacco is grown, and oftentimes isn’t the greatest option.

Overall, the best cigar comes down to your taste preference, it isn’t uncommon for someone’s favorite cigar to derive from a brand that isn’t established or well-known. The only way to discover your favorite is to explore the options - and have fun doing it.
