5 Kitchen Materials Interior Designers Are Crazy About Right Now
Kitchens are most designers’ favorite rooms because there are so many different ways to style this space. No two kitchens look the same - and designs often revolve around the homeowner’s decisions for practicality and aesthetics. That being said, expert designers are all raving about certain materials that they believe will be in a lot of kitchens this year and beyond. There’s a nice mixture of choices, but here are the current trendsetters:
Natural Stones
The kitchen world still goes crazy for natural stones, so expect to see a lot of them used for countertops and flooring choices. Limestone flooring is very “in” right now, while marble and quartz counters are always going to be timeless. People love the neutral aesthetic that natural stones bring - but there’s also something to be said about the idea of keeping your kitchen as natural as possible, right down to the materials.
Dark Wood
Wooden materials have always had a place in the kitchen, with older cabinets always being made out of different types of wood. However, the key here is that dark wood is on the rise. People love the thought of things like dark timber cabinets or kitchen islands with a stone top. Again, it’s the idea of bringing as many natural materials into the kitchen as possible, but also the darkness adds a much more modern aesthetic.
Ceramic Tiles
It’s time for the ceramic tile comeback! Once thought of as a symbol of kitchens from bygone eras, ceramic tiles are know one of the most talked about tile trends and styles from professional designers. Specifically, designers love the colors available, as well as a very key way to use ceramic tiles. People are now getting them cut in quite long, rectangular shapes, instead of big squares. This adds so much more texture to a kitchen and can bring different areas to life. Expect to see this a lot as splashback designs to jazz up kitchen walls.
Textured Cabinets
Speaking of adding texture to kitchens, one new trend isn’t so much a particular material as it is a design choice. Designers are taking wooden cabinetry and making it ribbed or ruffled. Instead of a sleek face, the cabinet now has dips and divots that make it stand out. There’s a slight practical benefit to this - ribbed cabinets have a natural handle, so you can get rid of handles to make the kitchen seem more minimalist.
Brushed Metals
Kitchens will always contain some sort of metal - usually in the hardware choices and sinks - but we’re slowly moving away from the chrome faucets and door knobs of the past. Black had a brief moment in the sun, but interior designers all believe that brushed metals are the latest “it” thing. Whether it’s brushed gold, chrome, bronze, or even other colored metals, the brushed look gives the hardware a more toned-down look that helps balance out the rest of the kitchen’s design.
Honestly, there are endless things to talk about when it comes to kitchen design trends and materials. For now, these are the biggest talking points and the material choices that most professionals are dying for at the moment.
