Yayoi Kusama x Veuve Clicquot

LGD x YK Bottle_Carousel_closed.jpg

Veuve Clicquot Champagne’s collaboration with world-renowned Japanese contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama, highlighting the portfolio’s prestige Cuvée, La Grande Dame.

The partnership will include a special limited-edition Kusama-designed gift box of La Grande Dame champagne ($195 SRP) + a select number of Kusama floral sculptures that uniquely fit a magnum bottle of La Grande Dame ($36,000+ SRP). The collection will be available for pre-sale beginning September 17, and then officially on shelves in October—timed to the release of the newest vintage, La Grande Dame 2012

For background, La Grande Dame (meaning “The Great Lady”) is a champagne created in honor of Madame Clicquot, who trailblazed the industry with her innovations and audacity as a female entrepreneur in the early 1800s. As a modern-day La Grande Dame and iconic name in the design and art world, Yayoi Kusama infuses her signature dots and artistic style into these limited-edition pieces – serving as a beacon of hope, joy, and inspiration during these times of uncertainty.

SUSH1 (pronounced SUSH-ONE), a new primarily delivery, pick up and catering restaurant in Chelsea providing high quality sushi at reasonable prices. It is a unique fast casual sushi concept that could change the way New Yorkers experience sushi.

Hailing from Brazil, a destination with excellent sushi given that the country has the second largest Japanese population outside of Japan, SUSH1 was established in São Paulo 3 years ago, quickly expanding in Brazil before international expansion to Mexico City and now NYC - the first U.S. location. The mission of the restaurant is to make sushi more accessible without sacrificing quality – turning what is considered by some to be a luxury into something you can order and eat every day. Their tagline is “Sushi for everyone, every day.”

What sets SUSH1 apart from other sushi delivery venues across the city – aside from their incredibly affordable prices for high quality fish – is that they offer the flexibility and convenience of being able to individually select each piece whereas most places offer uniform cut rolls. At $1 per piece, guests can build their own assortment box consisting of 12, 18 or 24 pieces of combinations of individual pieces of cut rolls, nigiri, sashimi and handrolls. As an example, for $12.50 you can have a selection of 6 individual pieces of cut rolls, 1 hand roll and 2 nigiri, along with a soda or water. The packaging is distinct, fun and fully recyclable.

The small-batch, handcrafted ensamble is made from agave grown, slow-roasted and distilled in the high-altitudes of the Sierra Madre mountains. Vamonos Riendo Mezcal combines eight-year-old Espadín with 14-year-old Tobalá sourced from 6,500 feet above sea level, where there is more sunshine, scarce water and less oxygen. This natural stress requires the maguey to concentrate its limited resources in the heart of the plant, the piña, providing intense flavors and aromatics. High altitude palenques allow Vamonos Riendo to boil the fermented mash at a lower temperature. This prevents the ensamble's intense flavors and aromatics from being burnt away and allows for a remarkably bright and flavorful mezcal.

Traditional mezcal is distinguished by high alcohol and a heavy smoke profile that is not to everyone’s taste. Brands are often portrayed as dark and mysterious, trying to entice the buyer with discovering the unknown. A fresh, vibrant and bright mezcal, Vamonos Riendo Mezcal is unlike any other product in the market. It boasts fresh fruit, honey and herbal aromas rounded out by a subtle black oak smokiness. On the palate, a medley of melon, pineapple, grapefruit and mandarin is balanced by the sweetness of cocoa and notes of mint and anise. The finish is velvety smooth with notes of caramel with a tantalizing citrus bite.
