How to Host a Virtual Housewarming

How to Host a Virtual Housewarming

August 17, 2020 by Emmylou Grimm

Moving homes during a pandemic comes with a unique set of challenges. Truck rentals are different, moving help is different, and even closing days are different. Most everything is virtual that can be, now, and there are new social distancing guidelines in place for all aspects of buying a house. Once you’ve closed on your new home, virtually or not, and you’ve moved in, you would typically host a housewarming party with all your friends and family. In the global pandemic currently going on, this isn’t an option in most places, as gatherings are limited and disallowed. Check out this guide on how to host a virtual housewarming so you can still celebrate while social distancing.

Send Out Actual Invites

Although the party may be virtual, the invitations shouldn’t be! You want your friends and family to understand that this is a real housewarming and not just a little game night. On the invitation, be sure to outline the date, time, and method of how you’ll host your virtual housewarming. Let people know there will be a tour, and ask them to send in their best decorating ideas in advance so you can show off your skills. Sending out unique laser-cut invitations is a great way to communicate to your virtual guests that you are excited about your new home and planning to have the most traditional—yet virtual—housewarming possible. It also shows that you thought of them in advance and that you want to share this special day with them. If you're curious about how to make a unique digital invitation to send it out to your virtual guest, you may design your digital invitation using pixelied.com's print mockup generator. There are lots of invitation templates that you may use. You may also start from scratch if the templates do not fit your taste.

Try the Tour Before Your Housewarming

Plan out your virtual tour before your housewarming begins. Decide which room to start in and how to handle the audience. If there are questions, you’ll want to be prepared to answer them right away—without taking away from the tour. Consider having multiple camera angles, if possible, to switch between if the guests find it easier to follow along on with different options. Try the tour out on one friend or family member the day before your housewarming so that you can work out the issues beforehand. This will ensure the event goes smoothly.

Write Handwritten Thank You Notes

Writing a handwritten thank-you note to the attendees of your virtual housewarming is a great way to show how much you appreciate their flexibility. Be sure to mention something specific that they said or did during the housewarming to make them feel special and appreciated. A handwritten note goes a long way when it comes to hosting any party, especially a non-traditional one such as a virtual housewarming.
