What Stops You Really Relaxing At Home?
What’s meant to happen is that you’re supposed to think of home as the place you can automatically and properly relax, but somehow that’s not always the case when it comes to real life. Sometimes you’ll walk through the door after a long day and still feel uncomfortable and restless for hours afterwards, probably without even knowing why. But if you did know why, you’d be able to do something about it and ensure that you’re able to really relax at home, so with that in mind, here are some of the causes that might be affecting you.
Clutter Keeps Your Brain Busy
You can actually get used to clutter around you surprisingly quickly, and that doesn’t just mean rubbish or items you buy - it could be piles of laundry waiting to be folded, for example, things left on the kitchen counter, or some random boxes that never really found a permanent place (perhaps you don’t even know what’s in them).
It’s odd, but after a while you stop noticing most of it, at least consciously; your brain is still very much aware of it. So if you find it’s hard to settle in a room properly, it could be the clutter around you that you don’t see anymore, but you can still feel. Tidy the room, and it will probably feel better right away.
Lighting Changes The Mood
Bad lighting has a way of making a house feel stressful because you’re not comfortable, perhaps you can’t see what you’re doing properly, or it’s actually hurting your eyes if it’s too bright. It’s not great, and it’s vital to fix bad lighting as soon as you can.
Yes, overhead ceiling lights are practical, but they’re also not going to encourage anyone to sit and relax in the evening and properly unwind at the end of the day. Softer lighting is what you want, and one way to achieve that is to install brass wall lights rather than (or as well as) a ceiling light. They’ll make the space feel warmer, and they’re not going to feel uncomfortable while they do it.
Noise Can Be A Problem
Sometimes homes never feel properly like a place you can rest and relax because there’s always some kind of noise happening in the background. It could be the TV on all evening, appliances humming, outside noises from a road or wildlife, or someone on their phone in another room, for example - all perfectly normal, but also all quite disruptive.
If noise is an issue, there are a few things you can do depending on where it’s coming from. For example, if it’s the TV, turn it off earlier in the evening, and if it’s noise from outside, you could invest in some sound-proofing, for example. If all else fails, some noise-cancelling headphones might just do the trick.
Comfort Is Crucial
A lot of people accidentally create homes that look good but aren’t comfortable once they start to use them like they’re meant to.
You might have uncomfortable furniture, for example, or rooms that don’t actually have anywhere good to sit and read or listen to music, and in general you’ll have spaces that are designed more for appearance than your everyday living. In the end, the homes people can relax in are the ones you can live in, so that’s what has to be at the top of the priority list.
