Sailing the Dalmatian Coast A Dreamy Journey Through Croatia’s Waters

January 22, 2025 by Jeremy Lindy

Over the past couple of years, Croatia has become a go-to destination for travelers worldwide. That's because this small yet beautiful country is full of landmarks and places that will blow your mind.

It is renowned for many things, however, certainly one of the biggest reasons why it attracts millions and millions of tourists is because of its phenomenal coastline, which, according to many, is one of the most spectacular coastlines in the world.

This is particularly the case with Dalmatia, which boasts crystal clear and warm waters, among many other things. If you would like to uncover many other reasons to sail in it, then stick with this article and you will!

Let’s Begin With Marvelous Split

You do not need to be a massive Croatia connoisseur to hear about this city, since, it is, after all, the second biggest city in this country. When people take cruises around Croatia, they usually opt for the ones that will take them to Split because they know that they can't miss out on it. This precious town is known for its fantastic coast, and while you're there, you must explore landmarks such as Diocletian's Palace, and many others.

Those who have visited it, claim that it made them feel as if they have gone back in time. Aside from having phenomenal architecture, this old part of Split is packed with various bars, restaurants, stores, etc.

Since this city is situated in the central spot, it gives you the chance to see other places that surround it like Bosnia, Hvar, and other attractive locations.

Moving On To Rogoznica

You know how there are those small, charming places, that may not be as popular as some others but are definitely as wondrous. Well, that's exactly the case with Rogoznica. Namely, this quiet, lovely town has more than 2600 sunny hours per year, and according to the seasoned sailors, it is one of the safest anchorages in this part of the world.

That’s precisely one of the biggest reasons why sailors all across the globe go there. It is widely known that Croatia, in general, is loaded with breathtaking beaches, and Rogoznica is no exception.

In fact, it is full of pebble beaches, with clean waters that will allow you to relax and sunbathe for a while. Although this place is considered pretty quiet, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t host different, exciting events.

On the contrary, the tourist board of Rogoznica has the tendency to host a variety of different events, particularly during summer, which are here to light up the overall atmosphere and make this town more vibrant.

The Charming Sibenik

Even though Sibenik is relatively popular, for unknown reasons, its popularity doesn’t come close to Split, for instance. It’s safe to say that it is also one of the most beautiful places in this country, due to its authenticity, architecture, wine production, etc.

Back in the day, this town was a crucial Renaissance hub, especially in the 15th and 16th centuries. Then numerous constructions were erected, and one of the most popular buildings includes St. James Cathedral.

Furthermore, it’s worth mentioning that this city was the birthplace of various painters, writers, scholars, and sculptors whose residencies still to this day look sensational. Just like many other places in Croatia, Sibenik is filled with a variety of different cultural events that are here to further spice up your vacation.

Out there, you will get the opportunity to enjoy all kinds of folk performances, jazz concerts, exhibitions, open-air cinema, and many other events that will make you fall in love with this town even more.

A Place You’ll Never Forget – Krka National Park

Tourists from different parts of the world flock towards Krka National Park, because it is by far, one of the most sensational places in Croatia. It is renowned for fantastic waterfalls, that will take your breath away as soon as you cast your eyes on them.

If you would like to avoid huge crowds, then it would be advisable to arrive as early as possible, through the Lovozac entrance. The best option to go there, is by taking a shuttle bus, however, if you’re in the mood to walk, you’ll need roughly twenty minutes by foot, and you’ll be able to feast your eyes on the wildflowers, pine trees, and butterflies.

While you are walking along the boardwalk, you will come across smaller streams, waterways, and a bunch of different waterfalls. This national park contains the very ancient Whiteberry tree, which is approximately 400 years old, along with oak trees, ash, and hornbeam.

While you’re there, it would be recommended to take a boat tour upriver, or to deep your toes in the river near the Skradin, which represents a small village, that’s full of charming cafes, backstreets, and shops.

A Real Sensation – Dubrovnik

If there’s one city in the entire Croatia that can be visited all year round, it’s for sure Dubrovnik. When you’ll go there, depends on your personal preferences. If you do not mind large crowds, then summer is perfect for you.

On the flip side, if you do not want to “huddle” with tourists, then spring is the ideal time of year to pay this city a visit. To say that the nature in Dubrovnik is wondrous would be an understatement.

Namely, if you would like to fully explore it, and, concurrently, take this whole trip to the next level, then you simply must go to Lokrum island at Trsteno, along with the National Park of Mljet, which is a breathtaking island, half of which contains the national park.

Dubrovnik is widely known for many things, and among them is a delicious, fresh, Mediterranean food. If you're generally a fan of fresh produce, seafood, and wild asparagus, then your taste buds are going to love everything this city has to offer in terms of food variety.

It's safe to say that the Dalmatian coast is quickly becoming one of the most popular sailing destinations. And it definitely doesn't come as a surprise, since there are so many places you get to explore.
