When it comes to selecting a banner stand for your next trade show display, two top contenders are retractable and Pop up banners. These options are popular choices, with retractable banners alone accounting for about 60% of banner stand purchases in the trade show industry. Both types effectively showcase a bold, attention-grabbing banner featuring your company’s logo and marketing message. Depending on your booth size and the event’s environment, one may better suit your needs. Both retractable and Pop up banners are available in various sizes and can be fitted with high-quality custom banners for durability and impact.

Key Considerations

Both banner types are compatible with dye sublimation printing, which produces vibrant, fade-resistant colors on fabric. Opting for a custom-designed banner is an excellent way to capture attention and boost foot traffic to your trade show booth.

Key Differences Between Retractable and Pop Up Banners

Retractable Banners

Retractable banner stands come in two styles: wide-base and narrow-base. Wide-base stands are particularly sturdy yet compact, making them ideal for tight spaces and minimizing the risk of accidental tipping. These stands also secure the banner within the base, simplifying storage and transport. In contrast, narrow-base stands have two metal “feet” that raise them slightly off the floor, which can be a stylistic preference. However, these stands are better suited for indoor events to avoid the risk of them being knocked over by outdoor winds.

Pros and Cons of Retractable Banners

A major advantage of retractable banners is their ease of setup; one person can quickly extend the banner by pulling it up from the base and securing it to the frame. Most retractable banners are spring-loaded for a smooth setup. However, retractable banners are often available in a limited range of sizes.

Pop Up Banners

Pop Up banners are designed with a collapsible frame that stretches the banner fabric fully to the floor without a base. Setting up the frame is straightforward and often requires no tools, although a small pair of pliers can help speed things up in some cases.

Pros and Cons of Pop Up Banners

Pop Up banners offer more variety in size options, including large dimensions like 119” by 88” that can make a striking impression on a sales floor, lobby, or similar space. While Pop Up banners and their stands can be more costly, they’re built from lightweight yet durable materials that can last for years with proper care.

Choosing the Right Banner Stand for Your Display

When deciding between retractable and pop up banners, consider factors like budget, booth space, the number of staff available, and whether the event is indoors or outdoors. Pop up banners may be easier to set up with two people but can sometimes be more expensive. Retractable banners are typically more budget-friendly, though they come in fewer size options. Whichever you choose, Print Popup Stands will help you create a custom design, along with advice on storing and transporting your banner stand and pairing it with display monitors for trade shows.
