How to Naturally Get Rid of Skin Tags Fast

August 22, 2025 by Jeremy Lindy

Skin tags are common, harmless growths that can appear anywhere on your body. They are typically small, soft, and flesh-colored, hanging off your skin by a tiny stalk. While they don't cause any pain or discomfort, many people find them unsightly and want to remove them. Thankfully, there are several natural ways to get rid of skin tags fast. Let’s dive into some of the most effective methods that could help you banish them for good.

Apple Cider Vinegar: The Miracle Solution

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is a popular remedy for various skin issues, and it’s often cited as an effective way to get rid of skin tags. The acidity of ACV works to break down the tissue of the skin tag, causing it to shrink and eventually fall off. Using ACV is simple. Just soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar, apply it to the skin tag, and cover it with a bandage. Leave it on for around 15 to 30 minutes every day.

Over time, the skin tag may begin to darken and dry out, eventually detaching from the skin. This process can take anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on the size of the skin tag. While this method is generally safe for most people, it’s always wise to patch-test ACV on a small area of skin first to avoid irritation.

Tea Tree Oil: Nature's Antiseptic

Tea tree oil is another effective natural treatment for getting rid of skin tags. Known for its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, tea tree oil can help eliminate skin tags while soothing the skin around it. To use, dilute tea tree oil with a carrier oil like coconut or olive oil, and apply it directly to the skin tag. You can use a cotton swab or a clean finger to ensure the oil reaches the tag without irritating the surrounding skin.

Apply the mixture two to three times a day for best results. Similar to apple cider vinegar, consistency is key when using tea tree oil. The skin tag should begin to shrink and eventually fall off after several days of treatment. If irritation occurs, stop using the oil and consult with a dermatologist to explore alternative treatments.

Banana Peel: The Gentle Option

If you're looking for a gentler option to get rid of skin tags, try banana peel. Rich in antioxidants and enzymes, banana peel has natural healing properties that can help remove skin tags without the harsh effects of some other remedies. To use, simply cut a small piece of banana peel and place it directly on the skin tag, ensuring it stays in place with a bandage.

Leave the banana peel on overnight, and remove it the next morning. Repeat this process for several days. While banana peel may take a bit longer to show results, its gentle action makes it a great option for those with sensitive skin or those who prefer a milder approach to skin care.

Garlic: A Potent Natural Remedy

Garlic, a common kitchen ingredient, is another effective natural remedy for getting rid of skin tags. The sulfur compounds found in garlic have been known to break down skin cells, causing the skin tag to shrink and fall off. To use garlic, crush a fresh garlic clove and apply the paste directly to the skin tag. Cover it with a bandage and leave it on for a few hours, or overnight if possible.

While garlic can be incredibly effective, it is also potent and can cause irritation if left on too long. Make sure to monitor the area carefully and discontinue use if you experience any redness or discomfort. Garlic works quickly, but it’s important to be patient and consistent for the best results.

Aloe Vera: Cooling and Healing

Aloe vera is a soothing and cooling natural treatment that can help with the healing process after removing a skin tag. While it may not necessarily speed up the removal process, aloe vera can help reduce irritation and promote healthy skin regeneration. After removing a skin tag through other methods, applying aloe vera gel directly to the area can calm the skin and prevent infection.

You can use fresh aloe vera gel or purchase a high-quality store-bought option. Apply it generously to the affected area and leave it on for at least 30 minutes to an hour before washing it off. Repeat the process two to three times a day. Aloe vera can also help maintain healthy skin, making it a great option for skin care long after the skin tag is gone.

How to Prevent Skin Tags from Coming Back

While natural remedies can effectively get rid of skin tags, it’s important to focus on prevention as well. Skin tags often form due to friction or irritation, so reducing friction in areas where you’re prone to getting skin tags can make a big difference. For example, wearing loose-fitting clothing and avoiding tight jewelry can help reduce irritation.

Maintaining a healthy weight is another key factor. Skin tags are more common in individuals who are overweight or have excess skin folds, where friction is more likely. By staying active and maintaining a balanced diet, you can help minimize your risk of developing skin tags in the future.

When to See a Doctor

While most skin tags are harmless and can be removed with natural methods, there are times when it’s better to consult with a healthcare professional. If you notice a skin tag that changes in appearance, bleeds, or becomes painful, it’s important to have it checked by a doctor. In rare cases, what transit means appears to be a skin tag may be something more serious, such as a mole or growth that requires medical attention.

A doctor may also recommend professional removal options, such as cryotherapy (freezing), electrosurgery, or excision, for larger or more troublesome skin tags. These treatments are typically quick and effective, but they may come with a higher cost than natural methods.
