Holiday accessories to make your summer looks more interesting

July 18, 2025 by Jeremy Lindy

Summer is the perfect season for experimenting with pretty much anything. The days are longer, the evenings are warmer, and your wardrobe gets lighter. Whether you're heading to the coast, catching up with mates at a rooftop bar, or just enjoying some time off in the sun, it's the perfect moment to have fun with your fashion style. But with all the heat, most summer outfits tend to be pretty simple: shorts, tees, maybe a linen shirt if you're feeling fancy. That’s where accessories come in. The right details can take a basic look and make it stand out, without much effort at all. In this article we’re gonna tell you how a few smart accessory choices can keep your look comfortable and low-key while still adding some personality. Read along and get ready to have a fun and breezy summer with cool outfits!

Sunglasses

You can’t talk about summer style without talking about sunglasses. They’re essential for protecting your eyes, sure, but they’re also one of the easiest ways to show a bit of character. This season, there’s a style out there for everyone. You can go classic with wayfarers or aviators, or lean into something more playful like round frames or coloured lenses. A good pair of shades can make even the most basic outfit look more considered. Try matching your frames with your outfit's colour scheme, or use them as a pop of contrast. The key is to pick a shape that suits your face and a style that feels like you. And yes, it's totally okay to own more than one pair.

Hats and caps

When the sun's beating down, a hat is more than just a fashion choice, it’s practical. But that doesn’t mean you can’t look good while staying cool. A wide-brimmed straw fedora or a lightweight linen flat cap can instantly give your outfit a laid-back, put-together vibe, perfect for beach holidays or chilled terrace lunches. Check out some Irish flat caps here https://www.gaelsong.com/prod_detail_list/accessories-irish-hats and choose the best one for your trip. If your style leans more sporty or casual, a baseball cap is always a solid choice. Go for washed cotton or canvas in neutral or pastel tones for a subtle upgrade from the basic logo cap. Bucket hats are also making a comeback, especially in relaxed holiday settings. Choose a version in linen or light cotton and it’ll be your best mate on hot days.

Simple jewellery

Jewellery might not be every guy’s go-to, but in summer, it’s a great way to add subtle interest without overheating. Think minimal leather bracelets, beaded wristbands, or a simple silver chain. These small touches can break up the simplicity of a t-shirt and shorts combo and give your look more personality. Natural materials like wood, rope, and shells work well in casual, beachy settings, while metal pieces can elevate your look for evenings. Keep it low-key and mix one or two pieces rather than piling on too much. If you're new to this, start with a single bracelet or ring and see how it feels.

Bags

You’re going to need something to carry your essentials, sunscreen, wallet, book, water bottle, but that doesn’t mean you have to settle for an old gym bag. In summer, lighter and more textured options make a difference. A canvas tote is perfect for the beach or a relaxed city day, while a leather or waxed canvas crossbody bag works well for more elegant occasions. If you're the type who likes to be hands-free, a fanny pack or sleek backpack in a neutral colour can look stylish and modern without being fussy. Bonus: you’ll never lose your sunglasses again.
