CAN YOU VISIT BOTH SIDES OF NIAGARA FALLS IN 1 DAY

April 14, 2025 by Jeremy Lindy

The short answer is: Yes! You can absolutely visit both the American and Canadian sides of Niagara Falls in one day. In fact many people do.

Some enjoy taking part in a morning experience with a sightseeing tour company like Walk Niagara Falls Tours (https://www.fallstour.com) or other tour options before crossing over to the American side for more to explore.

HOW TO CROSS

Crossing between Niagara Falls, Canada and Niagara Falls, USA is straightforward, with the Rainbow Bridge being the most convenient option for tourists.

Here's how to make the crossing:

The Rainbow Bridge connects downtown Niagara Falls, Ontario, with Niagara Falls, New York. It's open 24/7 and accommodates both vehicles and pedestrians.

For Pedestrians:

  • The walk across the bridge takes about 10–15 minutes and offers stunning views of the falls.

  • Upon entering the new country you'll go through customs at the end of the bridge.

For Vehicles:

  • Drive across and follow signs to customs

  • Be prepared for potential wait times, especially during peak tourist seasons in the summer months.

Required Documents

  • Canadian Citizens (16 and over): Valid Canadian passport or an Enhanced Driver’s License (issued by Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba, or Quebec).

  • U.S. Citizens (16 and over): U.S. passport, passport card, or Enhanced Driver’s License (from states like New York, Michigan, Minnesota, Vermont, or Washington).

  • Children under 16: A birth certificate may suffice, but it's best to check current regulations.

IDEAS FOR A 1 DAY ITINERARY FOR BOTH SIDES OF NIAGARA FALLS

Morning - Canadian Side

Book a sightseeing tour of Niagara Falls with one of the great tour companies Canada has to offer. Most your package experiences last around 2.5 hours meaning you’ll have plenty of time for lunch before crossing over to the USA.

Afternoon - American Side

Start at Niagara Falls State Park  to enjoy the open park spaces and beautiful scenic views.

Board the Maid of the Mist (seasonal) for a ride up close to the falls.

Explore the Cave of the Winds for another thrilling experience of the American falls.

Check out viewpoints such as Prospect Point and Luna Island.

Evening - Enjoy the Illuminated Falls from either side of the border.

The Canadian side offers many dining options with wonderful views of Niagara Falls such as Table Rock House, the Skylon Tower and Secret Garden Restaurant.

TIPS FOR VISITING BOTH SIDE OF NIAGARA FALLS IN 1 DAY

  • Cross early to avoid long lines at the border.

  • Parking can be easier on the U.S. side; walk across if possible.

  • Book tours or attractions ahead if you're going in peak season.

  • Consider a guided tour (like Walk Niagara Falls Tours - https://www.fallstour.com) if you want it all streamlined.
