Tokyo Record Bar, the Greenwich Village homage to Japan’s iconic vinyl jewel boxes, celebrates the 109th birthday of jazz legend Thelonious Monk from October 8–10 with an exclusive Sonic Journey curated by Monk’s grandchildren, Sierre Monk and Thelonious IV Monk.
Across three nights, guests can choose between two experiences: a seven-course vinyl jukebox omakase menu crafted by Executive Chef Ignacia Valdés (seatings at 6 and 9 PM), with dishes like Bright Mississippi (katsu, satay sauce, collard greens and rice) and Underground, a reinterpretation of Monk’s favorite Entenmann’s banana pound cake; or cocktails and Chef Ignacia’s bites à la carte at the upstairs cocktail bar (reservations at 6, 8 and 10 PM; walk-ins also accepted).
October 10 marks Monk’s birthday, and the weekend closes out with Monk’s niece Angélika Beener of @kulturedchild.
