Event Description: Joe’s Pub hosts a rare New York celebration of the birthday of eccentric French composer Erik Satie, led by New York Times critics’ pick Anglo-Trinidadian jazz vocalist Tessa Souter. The evening features music from her internationally acclaimed album Shadows and Silence: The Erik Satie Project (2025, Noanara), which brings Satie’s haunting Gnossiennes and Gymnopédies vividly into the present through Souter’s original lyrics and bold new jazz arrangements by GRAMMY-winning pianist Luis Perdomo.

Praised for her “butterscotch timbres” (★★★★ DownBeat), evocative lyricism, and fearless genre-crossing vision, Souter has created an album hailed as “a work of true brilliance” (UK Jazz News), “a masterpiece” (★★★★★ Audio Stereoplay), and “outstanding” (★★★★ Jazzwise).
